Vegas Pro 13 MPEG2 Render Bug

MarkHolmes wrote on 5/31/2014, 2:27 PM
Hey, just when I thought Vegas 13 was bulletproof, I've run across a glitch that forced me to copy and paste an entire project back into Vegas 10 for render.
I have a simple timeline (2 Panasonic GH3 AVCHD clips) that totals 2 hours, simple titles. Everything was fine til I went to render an MPEG2 for DVD (client still insists on a DVD and HD delivery) and the render (not the original clips and not showing on the timeline) shows a weird one-frame glitch - every 20-30 seconds for the entire two-hour render.
Anyone else experience this?
Here's one example of it:

No doubt your footage is 24p, and you are encoding 29,97 for the DVD.
There are Telecine templates already in Vegas.

Or, you can read up on "soft telecine."

Nope. No issue here. As Mark mentioned, it might well be a frame rate miss match in your workflow.

No, I was rendering to a template I have used for years in Vegas for projects using this camera. And the same footage, using identical template, renders fine in V10. And if it was a framerate issue it wouldn't make sense for it to be happening every 20-30 seconds, it would be more frequent.
I've seen frame rate issues before and they don't look like this....
Did you guys look at the footage?

It looks like a ghost image of another scene to me. It lasts for about 3 fields (if I did it correctly on the timeline). Did you have multiple tracks of video, possibly another angle or something?
musicvid10 wrote on 5/31/2014, 5:51 PM
Might try turning off all gpu in V13 and render again.

Do a test render to something else such as AVC and see if you get the same glitch.

I agree with trying it with GPU off, VP13 definitely has GPU rendering problems.
MarkHolmes wrote on 6/1/2014, 5:42 PM
Well, I re-rendered using a different template and the issue is gone. Baffling.
I still sing the praises of Vegas 13 though. Considering it's only on its second update it's the most stable release I've seen in years - and I've been using Vegas
since version 4.

Anyhow, problem fixed for me - at least I have a workaround. And it is worth it - the render time for the project in 13 using GPU is about an hour for a 2 hour timeline - versus 6 or 7 hours in V10.
Oh, and AVC didn't show any issues. And thanks to all for the suggestions.

how did you fix this, I am experiencing a similar problem and have re-rendered the same clip about 10 times using different settings. It's HD footage and when rendered to HD it works fine, when rendered to MPEG-2 it starts shows quick glitches at random points in the footage.

I have tried different templates and nothing is fixing it. Have a timeline full of weeks worth of editing that I cant render to MPEG-2 without issues!

ARGH HELP

I wonder if you were using a template "inherited" from a prior Vegas version. I would try one of the unmodified templates you get with 13, and see what happens.
bigjezza wrote on 9/26/2014, 7:19 AM
I had a similar issue recently with MPEG2. I could render OK to AVI or something, and turning off timeline GPU acceleration fixed it.
Do you have an NVidia GPU?
Craggy wrote on 9/26/2014, 8:15 AM
I have tried turning off GPU, didn't fix nothing, also tried using other templates, it literally will not render an MPEG-2 for PAL DVD without adding glitchy, jumpy frames. I feel like crying, been trying to fix this for two day, got a full wedding that needs rendered and I can't render it without it having glitchy bits in the footage
Former user wrote on 9/26/2014, 8:44 AM
Craggy, there are two places to turn off GPU. Make sure you are turning it off on the RENDER pages, not under project preferences.
Craggy wrote on 9/26/2014, 8:46 AM
I have turned it off under Options/ Preferences

how do I access the render one?
Former user wrote on 9/26/2014, 8:57 AM
When you access the render template, at the very bottom is a drop down to use GPU or CPU or auto.
Craggy wrote on 9/26/2014, 9:02 AM
AH yes, that is there when I render to Sony AVC/MVC for HD which renders fine, this problem is with MPEG-2 PAL, that option isn't there under those templates.

I actually think I have rendered this clip about 20 odd times now using a whole host of different settings and nothing is fixing it, weird how it renders fine in HD then messes up with downscaling to 720x576 - something that worked fine in my old movie studio program now won't work in the much dearer professional programme, so so so so so annoying
john_dennis wrote on 9/26/2014, 9:02 AM
Flie / Render As / Select Render Template / Customize Template / Encode Mode / CPU Only
Craggy wrote on 9/26/2014, 9:09 AM
Thanks john but that doesn't appear under MPEG-2 PAL DVD render, this is a nightmare, should have stuck with movie studio
Former user wrote on 9/26/2014, 9:15 AM
Sorry, I think you are right. It does not appear under that option.

Are you rendering from HD pal to Standard Def PAL?
Craggy wrote on 9/26/2014, 9:17 AM
Hi Dave, yes I am
Former user wrote on 9/26/2014, 9:20 AM
Is there any way you could post a screen grab of one of the glitches?
Craggy wrote on 9/26/2014, 9:26 AM
I don't see an option of adding pictures here, to describe it, its like half a second of glitch then the footage continues as normal, in the half a second two scenes are faded over each other, usually the scene currently showing along with another scene from somewhere else on the timeline...
Craggy wrote on 9/26/2014, 9:29 AM
like two scenes playing over each other at the same time... when in the timeline they aren't doing that at all -does that make any sense? have contacted Sony, keep getting the GPU answer....awwwww man this sucks
