Have you tried re-installing Vegas?

Press and hold CTRL+SHIFT and launch Vegas, that should reset Vegas to all it's default settings.

Yes, uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas, also tried CTRL + SHIFT to load default.
Same thing, will not open.

Just uninstalled ATI Radeon 5970 and reinstalled GTX570. Vegas opens.

I would like to get ATI Radeon to work, any ideas?

Before you uninstall Vegas, try this:

- Turn GPU acceleration off in your video preferences and restart Vegas.
- Uncheck otimize GPU display performance
- Do a short MainConcet AVC render with encode mode set to Render using CPU only
- Same for Sony AVC (and any other GPU-accelerated render formats, if there are any)
- Restart again

Basically I'm wondering if there's something in the settings or even registry that is looking for you Nvidia card, so hopefully doing this would stop that.

Looking at the fault module in your error report, I'm actually thinking it's more likely the driver that is causing the problem.

I'm assuming you're using the latest Catalyst Software Suite Omega version 14.2. I am using version 14.9.1 beta with my similar Sapphire HD 6970. Unfortunately that one is no longer available on the previous drivers page, but maybe you can find it elsewhere, or I could send it to you. I know I had a problem with driver 14.9, but you could also try rolling back to an older version.

What brand is your card? OldSmoke recently found he had to roll back to driver 13.251 which was the latest driver his card manufacturer (Asus?) supplied for his AMD R9 290.

Download from Asus most recent drivers and Utilities. Will have to check version. After i ran utility for registry, i lost the use of two programs, so I am working on getting a few things up and running.
The 5970 made a nice pulse groan sound and the fan is not spinning working, card was overheating. Removed for now, will try again once I replace the cooling fan. Will take a look at OldSmoke's thread.
thanks again.

This is a nasty behavior in Vegas Pro GPU support. You MUST disable GPU Acceleration before you change a video card or drivers. I've run into it as well. I had to re-install old drivers, disable GPU, and then re-install the new drivers. No amount of uninstalling, re-installing, or starting Vegas with SHIFT+CTRL would fix the problem. Only setting the computer back to it's original state and disabling the GPU would make Vegas start again.

Any time I've installed a new GPU I've *ALWAYS* reinstalled the OS. Almost everything interacts with the GPU & API and there's lots of drivers/code used that only supports specific features on various manufactures & card runs.

Like you said, just popping the Nvidia back in worked. That says to me the OS is still using the Nvidia stuff, even though it claims it's gone. It's not gone.

I have NEVER had a problem with a GPU when I've redone the OS at the same time. The only exceptions were before Win 2k & if I traded one model for the exact same manufacture and type of card, just slightly different (IE a ATI 8500 for a 8500 with more RAM).

Well that was it. Had to install old card, uncheck GPU acceleration, restart vegas.
Uninstall components, reinstall new board. Up and running.

Of course i can't uninstall all nvidia software (registry). But I am up and running.

Not much advance in fps timeline playback from GTX HD 570 to Radeon HD 5790.

Thanks for the help, always can count on Vegas Pro Forum to get me up and running again.

I can imagine that he HD5790 doesn't do much better then the GTX570. You would have to go up to a 79xx or R9 290. If you have the space and sufficient PCIe lanes in your system you can leave both cards in it. That way you get the best of both worlds. :-)

I downloaded red car test, ran Radeon on secondary display at 1600X900. 15-17 FPS (lowest frame rate) on best full. Barely held 29.97 for reasonable time.

GTX 570: Held at 29.97 on best full !! I opened up preview window and secondary window and it held steady 29.97 (fraction of a frame dip for .25 second at a few transitions)

Staying with GTX 570 until my next build. Must have the right balance in this system and I am going to leave well enough alone.

Thanks for all the help.

GTX 570 performed better was pretty obvious. AMD 6950/6970 performs equally the same or slightly better than gtx570. Anything less than 6950/6970 will not do better tha gtx570. GTX570/580 is a very good performer for Vegas.
