Vegas Pro 14 won't open high fps footage

Austin1 wrote on 1/23/2021, 7:13 PM

I am trying to import high fps footage in Vegas Pro 14(Because it plays smoother) and I keep getting an error called "None of the files dropped on VEGAS Pro could be opened." the footage opens in Vegas Pro 17 but won't it 14. Other people have tried importing high fps footage without issue so I think that I did something wrong or don't have a plugin.

I am trying to open 360fps+ footage if that helps.

Hardware:

Ryzen 7 3800x

RTX 3080

64gb ram 3600 cl18

You should share MediaInfo for the footage. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

This type of media may not be supported in 14. If I were you, I would troubleshoot why 17 is slow and not bother with 14 anymore.

Thanks so much. Is there another page with more info, like frame rate and resolution?

360fps footage does not play back smoother than 60fps footage, unless you are playing it back in a player that supports that frame rate and on a monitor that can display at that frame rate as well. If your final destination is youtube, you cannot have above 60fps no matter how many fps you put into it, it will be reduced down to 60 upon display. VEGAS (nor any other NLE I know of) also does not support rendering video above 60fps, so you're wasting your time. The only benefit to starting with such a high frame rate is if you plan on doing ultra-slow motion.

I record gameplay videos at a high framerate and render in 60fps because it adds a motion blur effect that I like. My problem is that vegas pro 14 can't open 360+ fps and vegas pro 17 plays back the footage with lag while editing no matter the frame rate. Vegas Pro 14 playsback almost every framerate smoothly for me.

fr0sty wrote on 1/24/2021, 2:31 AM

VEGAS 14 likely isn't going to open 360+fps video, I'd be surprised to see any version of VEGAS open it, and if it did, you're not going to get good performance out of the video no matter what. That's a lot of frames per second it is having to process, and you're probably adding effects and text and such on top of that as well. Your best bet would be to proxy the video in VEGAS 17 if you want smooth playback, then make sure the preview quality is set to preview or draft to enable the proxies after creating them. The best option here is to not use 360+ fps footage at all and achieve your motion blur effects using something like RSMB, or use lower FPS footage than 360.

I'm curious with the motion blur effect you want to achieve by recording which such high-frame rate, while not sure if I personally able to reached that kind of frame rate here... haven't experiment.

Can you share one short recorded gameplay videos for testing? Upload to google drive / dropbox / etc and share the link here.

If you pause at different times you can multiple frames blended into 1. You can do this when you render a high fps at 60fps video with smart resample turned on.

Can you share an actual 360 fps video file for testing as suggested by @set?
