Vegas Pro 16 - GPU playback decoding? Does it work or not?

LukasD wrote on 6/18/2020, 1:13 PM

HI Vegas community

This is my first post on this forum. I'm here because some matter is bothering me all the time I work with Vegas.

I have never experienced GPU decoding during playback with any kind of video file. No matter if it's mp4, mov or any other codec. Task manager does not show any load at GPU "video decode". Any load I can observe is under GPU 3D and CPU. Is that mean that Vegas can not use GPU for decoding files to makes CPU loaded less?

I have selected my Nvidia GPU RTX 2060 in settings. Any tip in that matter?

Thanks for help.

Lukas

Thanks for tip John. You mean that Vegas PRo 17 support GPU decoding, and 16 does not, right?

I never ran 16. From the Vegas 17 site...

”GPU accelerated decoding for AVC and HEVC

You’ve asked for smoother playback in complex VEGAS projects, and now you have it. Use the power of your computer’s GPU to accelerate timeline preview performance. Projects with complex sequences, multiple video streams, effects, compositing, and filters now play even more fluidly, so you see all the action.”

Vp16 only has GPU decoding via intel quicksync for intel cpu. . your task manager should show gpu0 and gpu1, with gpu0 being the intel . It is here you should see gpu decoding. vp16 doesn't support the AMD cpu graphics

Hi Guys

At start I need to say that I don't have Intel CPU with internat GPU. I have AMD CPU with RTX 2060 card.

I have downloaded Vegas Pro 17 Trial. Imported several video files MOV (type AVC), MP4 (type Intel HEVC). Don't see any GPU decoder activity. It seems to work only on CPU.

When I open Media Player Classic or Windows 10 Media Player all video files are being decoded on GPU.

@LukasD  ... In VP17, is your GPU selected in Options/Video in the "GPU acceleration of video processing" field? The current setting might be "off".

Maybe depending on filetype and settings, but it works, look

This is it! Now my GPU goes fully loaded! Thank you

CPU is loaded 50% less than before.
