Vegas Pro 16 stuck at "initializing external monitoring"

Joseph-Fox wrote on 7/2/2019, 3:34 PM

Launch Vegas Pro 16... splash screen comes up, everything starts normally until it gets to "initializing external monitoring".

Have looked at solutions previously posted for earlier versions but nothing is working for me.

Windows 10 Enterprise v1803 (5/15/2019). Dell Precision 7510 laptop (Core i7, 32GB RAM)

I have multiple monitors attached and multiple USB devices (some suggestions were to remove everything to launch Vegas... tried that, didn't work)

hoping for suggestions

cheers and thanks

Does it hang or do you get a crash?

Did you try to disconnect all other monitors and tell Windows through All Settings/System/Screen that you want to use only your laptop screen and than tried to start the program.
Than after a first start you can connect another monitor, tells Windows and Vegas ( by Options/Preferences/Preview Device ) which one to use? This is the normal way.

it just sits there (so hang). i've left it alone for several hours at one point.

Okay figured out the secret sauce:

1) remove all external monitors of any sort (LCDs, Writing Tablets, anything)
- note: this is probably the only thing required but...

2) check to see if Windows only sees the laptop screen and doesn't detect any other screen
or even show that it thinks it should see a 2nd screen but doesn't (icon grayed out in Settings-->Displays

3) remove all USB connections except keyboard/mouse

4) launch Vegas Pro and let it go all the way to the GUI

At that point, if you were successful, then you can plug everything back in immediately.

I rebooted at that point, left everything connected and ran Vegas Pro 16 again and it worked fine.

Looks like the initial startup needs to be on a single monitor only.
