I have some footage in MP4 format that plays fine in windows player and in Vegas Pro 16, yet when I load it into Vegas 17 (343) it shows only a few fames, slowly, then many blank frames. I have tried to use all the same options and settings, followed the best YouTube guides from places like ScrapYard. I have renamed the File IO compound plug folder, turned off GPU rendering (its just a laptop with Intel graphics). It seems silly to re-render this footage using Vegas 16 just so I can use it in VP17, so it would be nice to figure how to solve. This journey, however, raises a number of queries:
1. Wouldn't it be a good idea to add a feature to collect a complete set of meaningful details into a single zip that includes all VP settings, pc config, graphic card and if inside VP at the time, logs and any footage data (some of this is already in the 'About' panel). This would go a long way to help clarify the environment under which many of the reported issue cases occur. The 'help' menu could include a "report an issue" which wraps this all up - and similar in a separate app for when VP fails to start.
2. There are quite a few settings spread over quite a few places that can have a dramatic effect on the reliability and performance of Vegas (all versions). Many of these settings are eclectic and most users would not know how to set these most effectively for their computer. So some utility that could be developed to analyse the computer in order to suggest the most appropriate configurations. e.g. Dynamic RAM Preview (max). My computer says it has 7000 available - yay, lets set this option to 2000. Oh no, VP crashes all the time when rendering. set this back to 400, and all is stable. Why? Some automated way to set this to the most appropriate value would surely help?
3. Many self-help guides suggest disabling the file-io compound plug-ins. Why were they developed if they cause so much pain? Could these be disabled via the Options menu (now that it has a File IO tab)?
PS, the if the Vegas forum uses /uk/ in the url, the links fail (404 page).
I include a very short MP4 and the effect that this and some longer ones have in VP17. They play smoothly in VP16. PS. no smart rendering either (as per recommendations).
