Vegas Pro 17 update 353 random crashes

paul-priestley wrote on 12/9/2019, 12:28 PM

Hi

I have been using Vegas Pro 17 with no problems, everything worked and was fast to execute, until I upgraded to build 353. Now the system crashes randomly and frequently. The cause of the random crashes can be generated by simple actions like inserting an image into the timeline, using smart split or moving an item from one timeline to another. Virtually every crash follows the same pattern, the system freezes for a moment, then says it's not responding, then says its saving 33% before finally executing the action. This process can take between 4 and 6 seconds to complete. Occasionally it does not not complete the action at all and simply moves to the dreaded white screen. It's the randomness of all this that is so annoying, sometimes no problems for half an hour or so, other times two or three crashes in a row.

My system is I7 4790, GTX 1060 with latest drivers, 32mb, 1 tb SSD and Windows 10

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Cheers Paul

I am having the same problem. Before the 353 update, my Vegas pro was rock solid. Now it crashes randomly...

I bought the upgrade from VP16 Suite to VP17 Suite a little over a week ago. I liked what it offered and wanted an update for Boris Title Studio along with the other Boris FX that now include Mocha.

Like you, using the latest build.

I'm working on a "fun" project and with it only being so far, 2 minutes long, VP constantly crashes, and I am doing nothing special and everything so far is simple editing on the timeline. No transitions or FX. Just doing trimming and clip placement. I can't go for 15 minutes (and a lot of times less) before VP turns "white" and is non-responsive resulting in me using taskmanager to exit the program.

I love the way VP edits, but this is not acceptable for a "pro" editor. I am not stressing out my computer in the least. I've turned off anti virus (Bitdefender) and anti malware (Malwarebyes). Win10 and graphics card drivers are up to date. I've restarted the computer (cold boot) and still the same issues. I am at a loss on what to do besides go back to VP16.

Screenshot is the timeline I am working on where all the crashes are happening. Videos are 1920x1080 60P.

something similar happens to me

I followed what @wwjd said along with only having 1 thumbnail in a clip on the timeline, and since I go to other programs while VP is open, I unchecked “Close media files when not the active application” in Preferences>General tab.

So far, no crashed, no "white screen of death" and everything is moving as fast as I can edit. I still save often though. But so far, I am happy to not have crashed in the last hour. Before, every 10 minutes.

I still save often though.

Not needed in VPro 17 if you use the Advanced Save of the menu Tools in a decent way.

What settings do you use in Advanced Save?

@j-v thanks. Never knew about this feature. I usually do incremental saves as I go along, but this seems to be pretty good.
