Vegas Pro 18 constantly crashing

... I am using driver 456.71 and dynamic ram preview set to 0. I'll try the Marco suggestion of dragging while playing.

That's interesting andyrpsmith, it seems that this driver has only been released today. I have just installed it and will see if it makes a difference to my project. I will report back when I have more information.

It's a game driver released to deal with issues with the new 30 series cards crashing so I believe it is configured for stability. (Just seen the studio version available).

Last changed by andyrpsmith on 10/20/2020, 3:20 PM, changed a total of 1 times.

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

@LatinoMike
It is a simple file and it allows me to do whatever I want to do with it in my VPro 18.
I did nowhere see your hardware specs, did you tell it or otherwise describe here exactly

- what processor you are using,
- your exact Nvidia card and driversnumber of the latest drivers.
- Where do you store your sourcefiles and where is your render-to location?

It's in my signature j-v. I downloaded the latest 2070 driver that was released today but I haven't had time to check if it works better yet.

I usually store my source files on a separate internal SSD and I render back to that drive, but because I was having trouble I also tried storing the project file on the C drive, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

Sorry, probably I looked not good enough.
Normally that hardware may not cause problems.

@j-v I had my computer specially built for video editing in January 2020. I have not had any problems until about the past 2 weeks and so I thought this could be caused by me upgrading from Vegas Pro 17 to 18. I am aware that there are always issues with new software and so I don't blame anybody, but it is very frustrating to not be able to finish a simple project.

I must thank all you guys who have responded. It makes me feel so good that we are all part of this Vegas Community. I felt so low last night but now I believe I will sort out the problem within the next few hours.

OK, I know I have the latest studio driver for my 2070 Super graphics card because it was released only hours ago on October 20, and it is now installed on my computer.

I have just opened a new Vegas Pro project using the video clips that I recorded on October 19, but again, Vegas wouldn't let me save the project file to my separate internal Video SSD, where the project folder with the video files is stored.

However - and I find this interesting - I was able to save my Vegas project file to an unrelated folder on my C drive. Is this a problem related to file names? I don't understand what is going on here.

LatinoMike wrote on 10/20/2020, 7:07 PM

What I originally thought was a technical compatibility issue is now making me question if I understand what has changed so much from a couple of weeks back when everything seemed "normal"

So, I told you in my last post that I had managed to save my project in a folder on my C drive. Then when I try to open it again I get error messages. I tried to open the Vegas project file in several ways: by double-clicking the file icon, or selecting "open" by right-clicking it, or right-click and "open with Vegas Pro". It must seem crazy but 2 of these options give me an error message but one of them seems to work and the project opens.

I am sure I missing something here. There must be a simple reason why this is happening.

@LatinoMike - I can't repro any of your issues.

Splits, Moves, Saves, Openings and Closings' . . All working fine. I also did the SF Fandango using an SFx in SF, that works, and getting the NEW Take back into VP18.

Sorry . . .

If you are using Windows 10, have you allowed Vegas to get access to other drives in the Controlled Folder Access in Windows Security? Just a thought as I have a similar problem..

@harry-worth thank you for your suggestion. I am beginning to think that my problems have nothing to do with Vegas at all. At the moment I am looking at Avast as being the possible cause. I have never added anything to the "list of allowed apps" - I didn't even know that this was necessary - and perhaps Vegas has been blocked from changing files on my video SSD by Avast.

Also, I have never before looked at the Controlled Folder Access in Windows Security, and so that is another possible reason for my problems.

A few weeks ago I was having problems trying to open Mozilla Firefox and I eventually uninstalled it.

All this seems to have happened over recent weeks and so it makes me suspicious that there has been some update from Windows, Avast or something else that has caused my current problems.

Hi Latino Mike.. I did have the same issue but I could not save to a folder on the Desktop even though the Media Project stuff was there.. But I could save to other locations. In the end I looked at the controlled folders and Turned off the slider switch ( I think the default is On ) and then I could save, so I then turned it back on and selected ADD and then searched for the Vegas exe file and added it.. All worked find after that.

Anyway, good luck.. :)

What is your Windows version and OS build?

Beginning to wonder many of latest issues were possibly caused by these recent Windows Updates or Security updates...

Hi set, I have copied the information you asked for below. I do remember that there have been some recent Windows updates, and it is possible that this is relevant to the problems I have been having.

LatinoMike wrote on 10/29/2020, 10:39 AM

Since my last comment, I continued to have problems getting Vegas Pro 18 to load and save my projects. I reinstalled version 17 but that gave me just the same errors and crashes.

I tried a whole string of things to try to get to the bottom of the problem, and I was beginning to think nothing would work. In desperation, I start looking through my installed programs to see if there was something wrong or missing.

I then noticed a program I can't remember installing but it wasn't something I wanted: "SAntivirus Realtime Protection Lite". I removed this program and went through several restarts.

Now it appears that Vegas Pro 18 is again working normally. I am not sure if the problem was caused by SAntivirus Realtime Protection Lite, although I noticed it was installed back in May 2020, which was around the time I found that Mozilla Firefox would no longer work on my computer.

So, at least for now, I hope I can get on with editing and not have to lose any more of my work.
