Afaik that build does not exist,

but if you have the latest build 434 and want help you have to give here screenshots of your Options/Preferences/Video and Options/ Preferences/File I/O

Yes to those screenshots. Try setting dynamic ram preview to 0 mb, too.

Niclas-Engstrm wrote on 1/31/2021, 7:26 PM

Yes build 434, Cant find dynamic RAM preview.... Are the constant crashes also dependant on you settings in preferences?
Edit:Found dynamic ram preview, so far I have been able to render shorter vids👍

RogerS wrote on 1/31/2021, 9:15 PM

Yes, crashes often relate to a combination of settings, media and GPU drivers.

NVENC rendering and dynamic ram preview set to a value greater than zero seems to lead to out of memory issues for some reason.

For GPU drivers, go to help and then click "driver update." Go for the latest NVIDIA Studio Driver.

On the file I/O tab, leave decoding to auto (which it is) and for newer HEVC media you can uncheck the legacy decoder box.

@rock-c If you followed this questionable advice you would not be able to render anything with NVENC. Important to disclose that upfront.

From the video:
Step 1: disable GPU acceleration. Okay, but there's a performance tradeoff he should disclose.
Step 2: increase dynamic ram preview to 1/2 system ram is just totally mistaken. He thinks he's dedicating more ram to Vegas but actually he's taking away from what Vegas can use (it warns you less memory will be available for "additional processes required by Vegas Pro". He missed that part.)
Step 3: don't use the GPU for rendering either- only use SonyAVC. This is a workaround because you can't do step 2 and render with an NVIDIA GPU.

Okay, so disable recent functionality of Vegas and enjoy!
I wish videos like this and the ones from Scrapyard would tell you the downsides of the steps they recommend so users can make informed choices for their situation.

Hello,

I now have the most recent nvidia driver, and . I have set preferences for video and File I/O as recommended in this thread. It still crashes constantly. Like 10 times my last session... Dont know what else to do, i save all the time incrementally but it is impossible to avoid lost work with this going on!

j-v wrote on 2/3/2021, 3:08 PM

@Niclas-Engstrm  When your Nvidia driverversion is the newest STUDIO driver nr. 461.40 there is nothing wrong with those settings. Which are your used sourcefiles (MediaInfo) and your exact projectproperties?

No problem if you use the right settings at the menu Tools/Advanced save

My project settings. I have Nvidia driver 461.40. What do you mean by STUDIO driver? Are there more than one version of the latest Nvidia driver?

RogerS wrote on 2/3/2021, 7:11 PM

Yes, exactly. There are two versions. Select the Studio one which prioritizes stability.

RogerS wrote on 2/3/2021, 7:13 PM

Are you using ACES for color correction?

Now i rendered another project using GOPRO footage... .and it turned out a lot darker and red?! I had the exact same settings as my other projects (Using AVC files from a Panasonic video camera).

Niclas-Engstrm wrote on 2/6/2021, 4:09 AM

I am not using Aces for color correction, I dont even know what that is....

RogerS wrote on 2/6/2021, 4:57 AM

If you are not using ACES, you selected the wrong mode (32 bit full).

Since this is 8-bit footage, under project properties change it to 8-bit full. Please try again and let me know how it goes.

Niclas-Engstrm wrote on 2/11/2021, 11:44 AM

I have installed the STUDIO driver from Nvidias home page, still a lot of crashes.... not as many as before, but still.

This time it was the following file (panasonic video camera).

It crashes while doing normal editing (transition)

Good news- I don't see anything obvious with this media for why it would crash. 8-bit, constant frame rate AVC.

Is Vegas able to play it back fluidly? Sometimes if Vegas has to skip lots of frames and gets behind it becomes unstable in my experience. Changing preview from best/full to preview/auto can help then.
