Vegas Pro 18 crashes within 10 seconds of being opened

So, I've been using Vegas Pro 20 for a year now, but my subscription just ran out. Every now and then though, seemingly at random, it would freeze and go, "not responding", and then from there I'd need to close out of it. Sometimes I could go 5 hours without this happening, and sometimes it'd happen three times within half an hour. It was a moderate annoyance, but I was still able to use the software, as long as I saved a lot. Turning off the GPU acceleration seemed to help somewhat, but it certainly didn't fix it.

Well, my subscription ran out and so today I installed Vegas Pro 18 which I got for cheap from a Humble Bundle. Now, however, I'm experiencing the same types of crashes, except significantly worse, to the point where I can't have the software opening for more than 10 seconds without it freezing. I've looked up the common fixes that folk recommended but nothing is working and I've no idea how to get it sorted. I've had my PC for a year now and have never experienced the slightest issue with any other piece of software other than Vegas Pro, and so any suggestions people have would help a lot, cos I depend on video editing to make my living. I'm also worried that even if I just buy another year of Vegas Pro 20 that the exacerbated issue will persist there too, which would be a nightmare.

The newest Vegas version is Vegas Pro 21 build 187. You can try it out for free during 30 days.

What media do you commonly work with? Can you share MediaInfo for it?

It's primarily just regular MP4 files, either recorded via my PS5, or using NVIDIA Shadowplay on my PC, though I also used JPEGs, PNGs as necessary throughout my project, not to mention MP3s for music. For Vegas Pro 18 though, the software crashes before I even have time to start up a project, let alone import any files.
