Vegas Pro 18 Edit Will Not Open

John-Ryan wrote on 9/10/2020, 3:15 PM

I bought Vegas Pro 18 Edit recently as an upgrade. I've been using Vegas Pro 15 for years, no issues.

Vegas Pro 18 Edit will not open. Any time I try to open the program, I get a dialogue box saying the program has stopped working.

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's pretty frustrating having parted with the cash and I haven't been able to use it.

As I said, Vegas Pro 15 is on the same laptop, no issues with it, I've installed 18 twice, did a uninstall / reinstall, same result. I have sufficient RAM on the laptop to run it.

I emailed Magix support, they asked for a screenshot, then they closed the request.

Any help is appreciated.

Look here first: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/important-information-required-to-help-you--110457/

and deliver what is asked under B & C if you want help from this userforum, but first how your laptop looks like, concerning used hardware and Windows version.

Do you have any plugins installed with VEGAS 15? Some plugins have been known to cause issues with 18 launching.

John-Ryan wrote on 9/10/2020, 4:31 PM

Just the standard plugins that came with Vegas Pro 15, I didn't install anything extra. Would any of the stock ones be causing an issue?

fr0sty wrote on 9/10/2020, 4:35 PM

They shouldn't be. Know that, even if we can't find a solution right now, there is an update coming in the very near future.

What are your hardware specs? Are you trying to open a project in VEGAS, or is it just launching into a new project and then crashing? Does it crash after loading, or while the loading screen is still present?

Tell you what, try this and see: go into your program files and into your Vegas folder, then into the Vegas Pro 18 folder, then locate this file: libmfxsw64.dll

Now remove it from that location, don't delete it, just store it in another location, like in your documents folder.

Now give Vegas a boost and lets see if this helps!

@Steve_Rhoden moving that VST seems to have done the trick.

So what was happening was, I'd select to open the program, and it would crash on the loading screen, I wouldn't be able to get into the program. Now I can get into the program. I played around with a test project.

Do you know what's the root cause behind the problem? Thanks very much

@fr0sty thanks very much for your help too! I had a horrendous experience with MAGIX support, the two of you have been really helpful, and I can't tell you both how much I appreciate that, much obliged.

Wonderful, glad that helped John-Ryan. Hoping it will run smoothly from here on out.

What i know is that this .dll file is a software based Intel Media decoder and during the initialization at the Vegas startup, it is conflicting with something any particular user has on their system or the lack thereof, i have some speculation but not 100% sure as yet what.
