VEGAS PRO 18 has "black preview window"

Donald-Kinstler wrote on 12/15/2020, 3:12 PM

Magix vegas 18 - build 373 - legal copy

  • Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit
  • Intel Core i3-3220 CPU @ 3.30GHz
  • AMD Radeon R7 240 video card
  • 16gigs RAM

I am suddenly having a "black preview window" problem.

Nothing at all shows up: No time line, no video, just the title-safe bars. Google-fu is weak, and only shows results for prior versions -- which haven't solved my issue.

Q: Can someone suggest a solution?

Have you tried a full reset ?

Hold down the CTRL + SHIFT and click the Vegas pic.

Your specs listed is decent enough to run Vegas well, so make sure your graphics driver is up to date and try a full reset as Wiew mentioned above.

Intel Core i3-3220 CPU @ 3.30GHz has only two cores, V18 needs 4 min.

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

13th gen i913900K - water cooled, 96GB RAM, 4TB M2 drive, 4TB games SSD, 2TB video SSD, GPU RTX 4080 Super, Windows 11 pro

The program was working for several days, then the preview window stopped working, and all renders are black.

All my other versions, 14 and 17 work fine.

andyrpsmith, What are you talking about? The minimum system specs is noted for Vegas Pro 18 yes, but it can still run quite well on an Intel Core i3-3220 CPU @ 3.30GHz.

I have an extra Windows 7 laptop with less than half that system spec (Intel Celeron CPU actually) running Vegas Pro 18 in top top shape without an ounce of glitch or crash..... Therefore Donald-Kinstler problem has nothing to do with an under-powered system.

Donald, since you mentioned everything was running smoothly before, it is then likely something new was recently installed or updated, and need to be removed. Think back carefully what it could be or double check if Windows 10 was automatically updated etc.

Resetting Vegas isn't a bad idea for unexplained issues. Is dynamic ram preview at 200 or 0MB?

Update (or roll back) video card drivers?

Are you working with different media than previously? What if you just add a photo to the timeline- can you see anything?

Donald-Kinstler wrote on 12/16/2020, 2:37 AM

Nothing on timeline shows in preview window. Titlesafe bars are there. Everything renders black.

@Donald-Kinstler Have you done a reset?

Donald-Kinstler wrote on 12/18/2020, 12:26 AM

The problem was resolved by doing a reset and removing the VouKoder H.265 connector that I installed into Vegas 18.

Thank you all for the help.

I don't quite get which solved your problem- the reset or Voukoder?

I just installed Voukoder 7 yesterday (connector hasn't changed) and it's working happily.

Reyfox wrote on 12/18/2020, 1:02 PM

Voukoder is working here also in VP18. Possibly the reset did it?

I wonder what would happen if Voukoder was reinstalled.

I don't understand what you're saying here. Hold CTRL+SHIFT and click what "vegas pic" where? My preview has gone dead and I'd like to try this.
