Vegas pro 18 will not open after enabling MKV experimental reader

After checking the box to enable the experimental reader, when trying to launch Vegas pro 18, it does not launch the GUI. I tried the Ctlr+shift and double click, but no window launches and rebooting. I see the app running in task manager. I used Revo uninstaller to remove the app and all registry and file entries and reinstalled with the same problem.

Did you keep Cltr+Shift depressed while you double clicked VP's desktop icon (not the taskbar icon)? If not, give that a try and the reset to default settings window should appear.

I did double click the desktop icon and held down the ctrl and alt for about a minute. I saw the app in task manager, but no window came up for default settings

You seem to be doing it back-to-front. Hold down the Ctrl+Shift buttons and while they are being held down then double-click on the VP's desktop icon.

Sorry about the confusion , that is what I was doing, holding down the ctrl and shift before double clicking.

I also couldn't get the reset process to work with VP18 or several other VP versions even though it worked with VP22, so I rebooted the computer and tried resetting VP18 again - the reset window now quickly appears.
