VEGAS Pro 21/22 Feature Request - ideas.

I was thinking about what I would add to the next versions of Vegas pro.

- I would add the ability to open multiple timelines at once in tabs.

- I would ad the ability to open 2 or more stacked timelines in different tabs.

- Ability to hide temporarily tracks.

- Nested - composited - timelines should not open a new Vegas but a new tab for the timeline in Vegas.

- As now you can open an audio track in a different software right from Vegas to work on it, the same way you should be able to open the clip in Resolve to color grade it, then the updated clip would appear in Vegas Pro timeline.

- Ability to switch the camera angle in multicamera editing mode to a new angle even if the playhead is not at the beginning of the given clip. - for ex clicking on it holding alt.

@Norbert - Yes, very interesting.

OK, when you say Timelines, which I understand, do you also mean whole Projects, ie a whole Veg? We already have Parent and Child TLs, which is a Vertical arrangement. Having Tabs would be a Horizontal type of recalling - yes?

Tabbing has become the organizational Method for many GUIs, including the INTERNET, iZotope RX, Corel PSP, and many others, so why not VP? Interesting approach. Veggies can be introduced as Media, and we can also Stack Vertically Media, I do this all the time. I don't see why not, until I try this, adding Veggies as Takes could be a worthwhile exploration. These are potential workarounds for what you are asking. But yes, I get yah.

Multiple timelines are highly desirable and would be most welcome.

Not fussed about these.

This may or may not be technically possible - but it has happened for many years with the link to HitFilm Pro directly from Vegas Pro's timeline. If you've got HitFilm 2021_3 or earlier, that direct access should still be available from Vegas Pro's timeline. Otherwise, it's Vegas POST to get Vegas Effects, a trimmed down version of HitFilm Pro. BTW, the link to HitFilm Pro was originally introduced to give VP users access to more advanced compositing and 3D space functions that were not available or were more advanced than VP had inbuilt. And to my understanding it was a mutually agreed arrangement at the corporate level at the time.

My opinion only - the Vegas team has been developing Vegas Pro's Color Grading Panel over recent versions and my gut feeling is that it would be doubtful that Vegas would want to give access to a competitor's product specifically for a feature that's already in Vegas Pro though implemented differently - and would BMD agree anyway?

Vegas Pro does some things better than other NLEs, and other NLEs do some things better than Vegas Pro. It's up to each editor to decide which NLE is better for them based on each NLE's advantages and disadvantages.

@Dexcon - Quite!

Here's a thread for feature requests if you'd like to keep it from getting lost: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-feature-requests--134374/

We need node based grading tools. Maybe until Vegas can catch up to DaVinci at grading we could see a function like I described. I use both, I like the editing more in Vegas but for coloring it is not the best option yet.

I think about this tabs + stacked view like you can do it now in Davinci: https://ibb.co/vmC3gnz

I think importing .veg files in a .veg file opens door for lots of new bugs, so I would not recommend that approach. A new way to save timelines and to create composites would work.
