Vegas Pro 22 build 194 cannot play timeline after adding AI FX

marcel-boer wrote on 11/27/2024, 6:07 AM

Sometimes when I add a AI-effect to a clip, pressing the play button for the timeline results in a popup that reads: An Error occurred while starting playback. The request is not enabled for this device. What am I doing wrong? After a reboot of Vegas I can play though...

Can you explain in detail what AI effect do you use?

My PC is not the newest, but if it works sometimes and sometimes not that seems strange to me. 32 g memory, AMD 8350 eight core 4 Mhz, AMD Radeon RX 570 8 gig memory. That's old stuff I know but why can it play sometimes and sometimes not?

Check Sound audio device driver and try update it.

Many years ago I suffered similar error message. Didn't realize the audio driver issue from my very old system, on the mainboard's drivers. After reinstall and update the sound audio device, problem goes away.

My PC is not the newest ... AMD 8350

Seriously, AMD 8350 was released 12 years ago and is the equivalent of an Intel 4770 which my 10 years old i7-4770 desktop couldn't use at all with Vegas Pro's first gen AI years ago. If you want to use Vegas Pro 22 and it's AI features, it's well and truly time to bite the bullet and upgrade to a modern well-spec'd computer.

For AI, MAGIX Vegas recommends:

Operating system Windows 11 or 10

CPU 10th Generation Intel® Core™ i7 or newer

AMD Ryzen™ 7 3000 series or newer

GPU NVIDIA® RTX 2000 Series or newer with 4GB

AMD Radeon™ RX 5000 Series or newer

Intel® HD Graphics 530 or newer

Hmm, that GPU meets the requirements so I'm surprised you are getting an error message. With a 4GB GPU I sometimes get errors with style transfer that I have to use a lower quality setting (which I can understand).

Does it matter what footage you use it with whether you get an error or not? Or as you say if you just restart the program the same Fx on the same media will work?

Thanks and yes I'm aware of the fact that my PC is outdated, For normal editing and rendering it's working fine though, came from Vegas 19 where 4K preview was laggy and now in Vegas 22 4K preview is smooth so I guess my PC power should not be the problem here. Running source from NVME drive.

That is fine ... but your problem is with AI FX which is a completely different issue. Please note that VEGAS have specifically listed a different set of technical recommendations for AI that exceed the recommendations for 'ordinary' editing in Vegas Pro 22. Your computer's CPU falls way short of that AI recommendation.

I'm not even sure this bug is related to AI specifically- the same message has popped up for years:
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/playback-not-enabled-for-this-device--112714/

This thread thought it was about sound drivers:
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/error-message-request-is-not-enabled-for-this-device--134784/

I'd search this forum for more clues or file a support request as perhaps they understand what is triggering this issue.

Well checked the link you sent. This seems to be the same problem indeed. But Which DEvice are they talking about, video card, audio card? Anyone else still having this bug on Vegas Pro 22 build 194? This is frustrating :(.Only solution is save and restart as far as I know...

Thought the Ai-processing was done in the Vegas cloud?

Thought the Ai-processing was done in the Vegas cloud?

The Speech-to-Text (and vv) feature is cloud based but AI FX such as AI Auto Reframe, AI Colorization, etc are effects provided on your computer from the Deep Learning Models program that needs to be installed in addition to the Vegas Pro program itself. Disconnect the computer from the internet and those AI FX will still function.

It's the sound device in the second link I sent. Again, try support if that doesn't fix it as no, this is not a common problem in 22.
