Vegas Pro 22 Crashes before Loading

JHomer wrote on 9/17/2024, 9:12 PM

I have VegasPro22 (English version) newly installed but it crashes very early in the startup process. I had a similar issue with VP21 but can't remember what I did to get it to start. I changed something in a VP21 folder (init file, dll, ??) based on a forum recommendation. I don't recall what I did now. I hoping someone here can suggest why this continues to happen with each version of VP. I have a clean install of Windows 11, Geforce 4060ti, and a new install of VP22. No other version of VP installed. My error is with the FileIOsurrogate. I have the lastest BIOS update, latest drivers for all components, and minimal software installed that might cause a conflict.

Any Suggestions or pointers to threads where a resolution is given?

@JHomer this is what you recently posted:

After searching online I was more confused as there seemed to be all kinds of suggestions going back many versions of VP. I decided it wouldn't hurt to rename FileIOSurrogate.exe to FileIOSurrogate2.exe and try launching VP22. Surprisingly it launched just fine. Concerned that FileIOSurrogate.exe was required for loading certain file times (32bit .mov... etc) I renamed it back to it's original name. I rebooted my machine and tested VP22. Now VegasPro22 seems to start-up without any issues. I haven't opened any former projects or created a new project yet but I can now at least start the application.

I've seen others with the same error on forums so I adding my fix in case it's helpful. I can't explain why it fixed the issue.

Looking back at many other posts about  FileIOSurrogate.exe it seems it can conflict with quite a few other things running, eg. various audio drivers and even Movie Studio installations. Some report that deleting the file helped but no one should delete Vegas system files without advice from Vegas official developers.

@JHomer Seems to be clashing with some form of decoder..... Try this, go into this folder, C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 22.0\x86 and drag the "FileIOSurrogate.exe" file to your desktop and then see if Vegas starts properly. You can place it back afterwards.

I have 2 nearly identical systems. Both systems are having the same issue. I deactivated on Vegas Pro support on one system and uninstalled program and deep learning. Cleaned and restarted computer. Reinstalled Vegas Pro and still having the same problem. Any Suggestions?

Tried both solutions above. Renaming and moving "FileIOSurrogate.exe" file. No Joy.

Any other suggestions?

@Bob-232: is your error specifically with "FileIOSurrogate.exe" as mine was shown below?

Problem Description
   Application Name:    VEGAS Pro
Application Version: Version 22.0 (Build 122)
   Problem:             Unmanaged Exception (0x40010006)

Another Idea I used to resolve this in VegasPro 21 was to right click on FileIOSurrogate.exe and change the properties to "Run as Administrator". Not sure if that is the best solution but worked for VP21.

Bob-232 wrote on 9/18/2024, 1:02 PM

Didn't change anything. Put VP 21 on other system and works as usual. Put VP22 on a new laptop and works as before this issue. May have to reinstall Win 11 and reinstall VP 22 to resolve issue. Will try later if there are not any new suggestions.

Thanks for the responses.

Hmm.. My install was on a fresh install of win 11pro and VP22 and still have issues until I renamed FileIOSurrogate.
