VEGAS Pro 22 Import issues, 60FPS recorded video but 59.94 Project

FelixIsTaken wrote on 10/30/2024, 3:50 PM

I bought Intel Arc A380 Low Profile to use alongside my 6900 XT as AV1 encoding purposes, I recorded a Rocket League gameplay at 60FPS, 1440P using QuickSync AV1, after an hour or so I stopped recording and opened the video in windows, the video were a smooth 60FPS as expected, though when I import it in Vegas Pro 22 the video ended up being 59.94 Double NTCS

which after a quick google searched many said it shouldnt make much of a difference, but even with untrained eyes its clear that the video are very choppy as if its 30FPS or something, well not EXACTLY 30FPS but you can tell its NOT 60FPS.

Any idea? I have no idea why its like this. Any suggestions will be tested and reported from me

It should be no problem to change manually the project framerate to 60fps.

Above shows the settings reported by Vegas Pro 22

Here windows media player reports 60FPS

Video were recorded using Quicksync AV1, 1440p@60FPS, Bitrate is 12000kbps using CBR, OBS stats reports no frames missed or skipped frames and windows media player plays the video butter smooth while vegas pro plays the video very chopped and the rendered results ended up being very choppy aswell

its NOT because the preview is laggy, i have no problem achieving good preview frame rates.

I did exactly just that but there were no difference, i tried changing the project manually to 60FPS and no difference were spotted.

Probably your recording has the same issue as recently discussed in this thread https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/google-pixel-8-videos-cannot-be-handled-properly--147608/ were a 60fps recording is recognised as 60fps but played at 30fps You can try the solution described in that thread by reencoding to AVC 60fps with Shutter Encoder and see if Vegas accepts the 60 fps and plays with 60fps.

Good new it actually worked, the Vegas pro now are as smooth as media playback, though any other solution I can do that doesn't involve reencoding my video? It took really long time to wait for Shutter Encoder and Id really love to avoid that

Update: I tried remuxing the recording again and put it in the Vegas and noticed something.

I zoomed in and realized the OBS remux'd recording's audio were out of sync in relation to the Shutter Encoded one, but I corrected it by moving the remux'd one back to make the audio sync up

Zooming in again at the very end of the video, curiously the recently remux'd video timeline has several more frames than the shutter encoded one

Maybe all of this has nothing to do with the original question but I find this interesting, I tried to speed up the OBS remux'd to match up and have the same length as the shutter encode but the preview still is very choppy as before. After checking roughly in both timelines I came to the conclusion that the audio were the same, its just the video that are messed up.

Maybe its OBS remux fault? I record in mkv and remux it to mp4.

Update 2: Downloaded and installed mediainfo and found this

The original had a constant 60FPS while the remux became variable FPS, I'll investigate this further for Im beginning to think its OBS thats the problem, not Vegas Pro.

FIXED IT FINALLY!!!!

The problem is OBS, despite recording using mkv at a CONSTANT frame rate of 60FPS, once remux the recording will be converted to VARIABLE FRAME RATE which will make a noticeable hit on the playback on Sony Vegas like i experienced.

The fix are too complicated to say here but thank you to 3POINT for pointing me down the right path to discover the truth I wasnt aware of.

@FelixIsTaken I would like to point you also to this thread: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/de/forum/sony-vegas-vs-vegas--119881/

I thought others recommended recording fragmented mp4 and then remuxing to avoid the VFR problem.
