Vegas Pro 22 with latest 239 update.

jkerry wrote on 1/28/2025, 3:45 PM

Every time I edit a video in Vegas Pro 22 and save the project, I try to render it and I get the page pope up the the program stopped working and to send the info to Vegas.

I have to restart the program and open the save project and it works fine with rendering.

Is there anything I can do to solve this problem.

Jeff

ff_vfw.dll is a clue.

Is there any use of old media formats like AVI in the project that might decode with video for windows?

Was it installed using a codec pack? (including FFDShow or similar?)

I installed a codec from NewTek for the mov files. So I am wondering if that installed the .dll file. I don't need those codecs and can delete them and see what happens.

You don't need a codec for most mov files.

About ff_vfw.dll

The "ff_vfw.dll" is a dynamic link library (DLL) file associated with "ffdshow VFW". To understand the context and significance of this DLL, it's crucial first to understand its main components: ffdshow and VFW.

ffdshow is a codec mainly used for decoding/encoding a wide range of video and audio formats. It gained prominence due to its ability to efficiently decode numerous media types and serve as an alternative to the default codecs that come with Windows. As software, ffdshow provides a more extensive range of configurations and adjustments compared to standard codecs, enabling users to fine-tune the quality of their video and audio playback.

Has caused a number of issues going back a few years. My guess is that it is not needed for more modern systems which have codecs in place to fulfil the same requirements.
