vegas Pro 23 shows ProRes 4444 graphics as white (VP22 OK)

yoo-changyun wrote on 9/9/2025, 6:01 AM

in VEGAS Pro 22, my ProRes 4444 file displays text colors correctly (see attached screenshot).
However, in VEGAS Pro 23, the exact same file appears only in white, and all color information is lost (see attached screenshot).
Project settings are the same in both versions.
Is this a known issue with ProRes 4444 handling in VP23, or am I missing a new setting related to color management?

@yoo-changyun Can you share a sample file that has this issue? I have seen problems with exposure and ProRes 4444 in 23.
Could you share how that ProRes title was produced (which software?)

yoo-changyun wrote on 9/10/2025, 7:04 AM

"On the left is Vegas Pro 22, on the right is Vegas Pro 23. The left side shows the original color, exported as a ProRes file from After Effects. However, in Vegas Pro 23 the footage appears overexposed or completely white, with the color information lost. Looks like something inside the process has make this media more contrast.

I can confirm the differences. Developers has been informed.

I also made a post about this and included some videos/screenshots, idk how helpful it will be. Left the link below.

Little update on this issue. I've realised if you render a prores 4444 video in 23 and drag it into 22, you'll have the opposite issue. It will appear black with loss of color information. If you put that prores file in 23, it'll be completely fine. If you put a prores file encoded anywhere else into 23 it'll result in what's been mentioned above with the high exposure.

During testing, I found that disabling both “Enable legacy AVC decoding” and “Enable experimental HEVC decoding” and restarting the program restores the original, correct colors.
When these options are enabled again, the video displays as a white screen.

@Sooxzay @chengquan100 @onlyway Please see the beta build of 23 which improves ProRes 4444 reading (though may still have issues with transparency that Yoo pointed out).

VEGASFlorian wrote on 10/2/2025, 1:23 AM

The legacy and experimental decoders are pretty much deprecated. We're not going to fix any new issues in those and I highly recommend to disable these.

“I would also like to do that, but unless I keep Enable legacy AVC decoding turned on, I cannot import Canon EOS R3 clips that were shot at 120fps for slow-motion. So I have to keep it enabled. However, if I disable it, the issue of ProRes 4444 graphics displaying as white is resolved, but then I cannot import the 120fps clips. If I enable it, I can import the clips, but ProRes 4444 graphics turn white. This problem only happens in VEGAS Pro 23.”레거시 및 실험용 포맷은 거의 더 이상 지원되지 않습니다. 해당 장소에서 발생하는 새로운 문제를 해결하기 위해 외부로 초대받는 것을 유도하는 것을 유도합니다.

@yoo-changyun: Is it possible that you could send us a small sample of this footage? It should be possible for us to add support for that to the new decoder module.
