I own Vegas Pro 8.1 64-bit and the Sony HVR-V1U camcorder. Recently I realized that the V1U can shoot DVCAM (and possibly DV too?) in 24p mode. That is, I don't have to shoot in HDV to get 24p. I tried shooting in "24" and "24A" modes in either DVCAM and DV modes. Then I captured via Vegas. The option to enable "2-3 pulldown removal for DV" in Vegas was enabled. This did not seem to work, my clips were still reported as 29.97 interlaced. Then I manually set "Enable 2-3 pulldown removal" in each clip's properties. The clips are now 24p, but I still get one judder frame out of four for clips shot in "24A" mode, and two judder frames out of four for clips shot in "24" mode.
I have no problems with pulldown removal in HDV mode, Vegas does it automatically for HDV/24A video. The problem only appears when I shoot 24p in DV/DVCAM.
I saw that Vegas Pro 9.0c has the following problem fixed: "Fixed an issue with removing 2-3 pulldown from AVI/DV 24p sources." There is no additional clarification about what exactly was fixed. Was it the same issue I am having? I don't want to pay for switching to Vegas 9, I am pretty comfortable with Vegas 8, but I want this issue fixed. Or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.
