YEAH! Already downloading....

And now it is time to start new thread asking for the upgrade offer.

Interestingly enough upgrade costs the same from Vegas -> Vegas Pro 8 as it costs from Vegas + DVD -> Vegas Pro 8.

What about bundles? I've burned myself badly with Cinescore, now I'll wait a few days before making any financial moves...

Yes! Downloading done. I'm off for install... Gbye..

Special email deals not withstanding, the upgrade price is $234.95 (download) or $249.95 (packaged).

Having been badly affected with a bug in various versions V5, I plan to keep a copy of shared plug-ins before I install.

Which probably means the special will be somewhere around $199.

By the way, I'm showing no media manager installed. Anyone else have that?

MRe wrote on 9/10/2007, 12:54 AM
Media Damager seems to be an internal part of the app from now on (i.e. no separate install). It can be disabled as previously, though.

And no 64-bit version or am I missing sumthin here?

By the way, I'm showing no media manager installed.

Did you install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 first?

This version was never intended to be the 64-bit version.

Wow you can really do some amazing things with this titler. I absolutely LOVE the curves portion and would love to see it applied elsewhere.
MRe wrote on 9/10/2007, 1:07 AM
BTW. Do NOT associate .veg -files to VP8 TRIAL. At least with V7 if you did this you needed to clear the registry manually in order to get rid of that "TRIAL"-text in your .veg -files even after purchasing & registering your app. Even complete reinstall did not cure this.

I'm running Windows Vista. I thought the .NET 3.0 was already installed or installed in the automatic updates or something. Pretty sure it's in there. EDIT: I don't see any options to remove it and all I can see for sure is a .NET 3.0 update that was installed back in July.

I thought maybe they were planning a separate download for it given that the installer was half the size of V7. And by the way V7 still has it's own Media Manager still working.

Could be. But then again: how could I tell since there is no official announcement which version will be of 64 bit and when it would be available. I would've expected this to be it.

So, now it is the decision point: should I pay for 32-bit VP8 or wait for another 32-bits to arrive sometime in the future...
DataMeister wrote on 9/10/2007, 3:30 AM
I haven't used Vista-64bit. But with XP-64 you could usually tell by whether an app installed in the 64bit folder or the 32bit folder. Anyone using XP-64?

And anyone with Vista-64 can you answer how the Program Files structure is setup for 64 and 32 bit applications?

Kennymusicman wrote on 9/10/2007, 4:18 AM
re 32/64 bit structure in vista.
2 directories - programs files [the 64bit area]
and program files (x86) [the 32bit area].

I say hold out for 128.

A good fuctional titler sans fromage.
Also VP8 loads like lightening on our machines.
Small thing, but it's nice to have it there quickly,----chop chop.
OH! OH! The wood grain themes have been retained in DVD-A 4.5.
Thank goodness!!!

fwiw here's the link to the Vegas 8 manual pdf:

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/step2.asp?DID=771

I'll call Sony when they open to see if there will be an email offer, beyond the $249 upgrade price link, coming up..

Are there 2 different installs available for V8 (trial vs full), or is it just the one, for both?

I've installed Vegas Pro 8, but it asks for a serial number.

How do I get it into demo mode? Anyone?

Cheers,

Andy

I made the same mistake earlier this morning.
Install the trial version instead and wait for the "special upgrade" price (whenever that comes out).

I installed the trial version too. Off the main web page. It asked me to register now or via another computer. Attempting to do this brought up my Vegas7 (and before) details - well I'm not a new customer and I already had Sony stuff loaded up. Registering clearly was quite well thought out as this activated my TRIAL. 30 days.

So "make like you've bought it already" and you should be OK.
Hopefully purchasing won't upset the way the trial is limited but I'll re-install windows at that point if I have to!
