Vegas Pro 8 - Render Problems and LOTS OF OTHERS

Thanks Rob,

Yes, The Silent Woman is also a pub in Chelsea ... they got the domain a long time before us ... that's why we're using www.thesilentwomanmovie.com

... and no problems about the comment regarding your Father's boat ... I just didn't want you to get the wrong idea about our Silent Woman movie. Actually 'Purple Cow' might be a better title for the movie!

Rob, you're absolutely right about the quad core being a no core if it's not working ... I'm quite happy with my reduced core workaround for now but ... reading even further down this thread (which I started only a few days ago) I'm amazed at the number of people who are having the same problems with Vegas 8a.

I think it's time for a REVOLUTION ... WHO'S WITH ME? I WANT SONY TO FIX THIS NOW!! ... IF THERE'S ANYONE FROM SONY MONITORING THIS POST PASS THIS ON TO YOUR MANAGERS AND YOUR SOFTWARE GURUS ... WE'RE PROFESSIONALS WHO ARE AGHAST AT THE FACT THAT THIS PRODUCT IS SO FLAWED CONSIDERING THE EXCELLENT TRACK RECORD OF VEGAS IN THE PAST ... THERE ARE OBVIOUSLY LOTS OF US OUT HERE NOT HAPPY WITH THE PRODUCT ... WE WANT AN UPDATE (AT LEAST i DO) AND NOW IS THE TIME FOR IT!

AYE ME HEARTIES!

(I've just been watching Pirates of the Caribbean latest version - and it's got me rebellion blood up!)

Anyway, yes, thanks again to everyone who suggested workarounds ... let's see what happens next.

(Will check out the prerender thing Rob out of interest and see what happens.)

Cheers,

"I think Sony may have bit off more than they can chew by releasing a new Pro version with Vista compatibility, without enough beta testing.
It seems that various people with various hardware configs have stability problems, and I think it is the responsiblilty of Sony to make sure it works of these different platforms."

The first issue is Beta testing. Since Sony took over teh reigns, Beta testing is now internal and/or restricted toa certain number of externals.. i guess its not what u know, but who you know.. .

the second comment is probably the most profound.
If vegas was a Hardware device, then it woud require a minimum spec of HW. Much liek teh matrox ssytems and their nvidia, mobo and GPU requirements, there is no reason why Vegas cannot have something simialr. As it stands, teh only thing people need is a working system. And for the majority of the time, its true.
However, certain chipsets, drive configs, Ram settings, pagefile configs, actual makes of ram etc all determine how your system will perform. Add the equation of Vegas in that mix and youre bound to get afew peple who will run into sum trouble.

Lets face it, most of us upgraded our sytems to be able to handle the new video formats. If the SW doesnt keep up, we will end up jumpong ship. Its that simple.
As it stands, i think ill stick to V7 until a stable V8 is released before i even try to run it with my Quad...

Someone mentioned above they were also having issues rendering to mp3 with V8 and I recall some time ago having the same problem with V6. The cure related to the order in which SCS products were installed from memory.

If you have other SCS products installed it might be worthwhile trying a rather radical solution. Uninstall all of them and remove all registry entries for them and then install just V8 and try that. Probably the easiest way to clean the registry is to re-install the OS.

This is a pretty drastic step and a real crap shoot at best but the symptoms seem to fit. Some are having no problems and others are having major problems and apart from hardware the installation of SCS products could be a variable. Just how the various products interact I'm far from certain so this really is a stab in the dark but I'm pretty certain I've had an issue where SF and Vegas were interacting.

The above course of action was once suggested to me by tech support and it was way, way off the mark but clearly they think there's some scenario that it'll resolve.

OK, I successfully rendered a project that I could never get to render all the way through in V7 or V8 until now. I turned the dynamic preview to 16MB and reduced my threads to 2 (from 4) and it rendered correctly for the first time. Maybe this is the workaround for now. I have a dual core machine so on a quad core, it may be different but it seems logical that rendering less threads might reduce the risk of a total lock up of your system.

Now considering the number of issues quad owners are experiencing, id hasten to say that this is definately a problem which needs to be adressd in the next update...
