Vegas Pro 8 won't read .mp4 file

I have an MP4 file that will copy, be played by Windows Media Player, and will play on the camera that recorded it. However, Vegas Pro 8 won't let me import that file, which is 4.5-5 gigabytes in size. Is there a size limit to importing files in Vegas Pro 8? I can't figure out why it seems perfectly good in every other way I've tried it, but won't import into Vegas. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have Quicktime installed on your computer?

What is the source of the mp4 file?

Please run the file through Mediainfo and post the output here, it will help us help you.

avc/mp4 support in Vegas Pro 8 is incomplete. Many high profile parameters are not yet supported.
If you want to try, the only Quicktime versions that work are 7.6.0 and 7.6.2.

If you want a cheaper alternative to Vegas Pro 13, anything I throw at Movie Studio Platinum 13 opens straightaway. If I want to work in Pro, I just render a lossless intermediate.

The source is a digital card recorded with a Canon VIXIA HF R600. I'll look into Mediainfo and see what I can get to post. Thanks!

Just looked into Movie Studio, and I think that may be the way to go, especially since I don't need advanced capabilities, and my version of Vegas is so out of date. I'll download the trial and purchase if it will do what I need it to do. Thanks for the idea!
