Vegas Pro 9.0e Installation Issue

bhurst wrote on 5/14/2010, 2:57 AM
I downloaded 9e to install on top of 9d ... both 32 and 64. In both cases, at the end of the install I get a message saying ...

The Installation Wizard has ended prematurely! Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, please run the installation again.

If I try again, I am advised that the software is already installed and that I have to do an uninstall before I can run install. But when I uninstall/reinstall, I get the "premature" message again.

In both cases (32/64), I can actually run 9e after the "premature" ending. I opened a few existing projects and did a little rendering, and it seems to be ok, so what gives with the "premature" thing?

OK ... after writing this post, I found an existing thread that addresses ... but does not really solve ... the issue.

9e seems to perform better in several areas related to HD loading and preview. Good news!

Same here - as with all 9.0 versions. Could have run the install as the built-in Vista administrator, but then Vegas would not recognize mxf files!

I don't rant often, but it beats me why SCS still haven't addressed those two issues (they are probably related - I'm not sure, but since they are currently the only problems I have with Vegas, they probably do):

1. Premature ending of 64bit version installation
2. MXF timeline eating up memory when played back or smart rendered.

Of course I did open support tickets for both those issues, and - after a long exchange of emails - SCS closed them both as "resolved".

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Vegas Pro. But how it's possible that errors like these are never addressed is above my means...

Not every body has the installation issues. I didn't, and wow, really snappy on the project loads with HD content (HDV, AVCHD).

I just did the same update from 9d to 9e on my work PC, and did not have any issues with the installer.

As you can see from my system info, my two PCs are almost identical.

Oh well!!

Hi,

There seems to be quite a few people with these installation problems. I am one of them. EVERY installation of 9.0 (a,b,c,d,e - both 32 and 64 bit versions) ends with the following message:

It does not help us other that have the problem that some of you don't see it. I have tried everything a sane (!) person can do (format C excluded) - to perform a fresh install, but to no avail. I have followed exact instructions how to remove Vegas completey and then re-installed. Every time the install ends prematurely. I have lost already too much valuable work-hours trying to remedy this - I just don't care anymore...

There is something seriously wrong with the 9-series installer. Probably it is one of the bugs that SCS will not repair, since it seems that the install works ok. Probably it does not disturb SCS if the installer leaves some unnecessary files dangling on my HD...

Now I will test how - or if - 9.0e has fixed my issues...

Christian

I just installed the 32-bit version on my iMac. No problems with the installation. Went fast, actually.

Played around a bit with files from previous version of 9.0 and experienced no issues. Whew.

I feel very lucky and I hope you get your issues sorted out, soon.

I had the same problem tonight and tried everything--cleaning the registry, using Revo Uninstaller, deactivating virus scan. It seems to be running okay. I added new clips, opened old projects, and it did not crash after the 4th reinstall. I did get one crash opening on project prior to the last uninstall/reinstall--but now that too opens okay.

If the program work the way it should I don't care, but I'm hoping I don't have rendering issues or other problems later on.

Any other insights?
