Vegas Pro 9—Performance Hits

I'm not sure when this started, but Vegas is not performing as well as it used to.

I mostly notice it when observing the sound meters. The master bounces along smoothly, like it always has, but any other meter is choppy, making it difficult to see what's actually going on in the audio.

for instance, when using the track compressor, the input and output meters
also, I have a VST plugin called span that gives real time spectrum data while the audio plays—but now it just flashes on and off. I didn't do that before, and I've done all my normal performance maintenance (cleaning up the startup programs, closing all applications not in use, defragging the hard drive), but nothing seems to help.

Any Advice would be welcome.

I'm Running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64. On a Core i7-263qm cpu with 8 gig of ram.

Sounds like something else is hogging resources. Task manager will tell you.

I've investigated that, but it doesn't seem to be the problem.
I've closed every process I can, to the point that I only have 1% CPU in use and 66% of my memory is free, and Vegas is still performing poorly.

I've reinstalled Vegas, I tried completely wiping it off of the computer before reinstalling, but it still seems to be remembering some settings.

Vegas has other problems as well that I never used to have: problems rendering, windows explorer not opening when trying to import files, errors when pushing play while editing video, Vegas completely crashing when trying to change rendering settings.

It's really starting to be problematic.

This is a longshot, but have your video drivers updated recently?

Well, here's what I did.

As a long shot, I tried a trick we used to do when I was providing Support for Microsoft.
I created a new Windows Profile, and it worked perfectly well under the new profile. So I spent the time necessary to move my files from the old profile to the new, and then deleted the old profile.

Now the only problem I seem to be having is getting the Phase Bug VST plugin to run in Adobe Audition—but this isn't he right Forum for that. :D

If you try out software, an uninstall never completely does its job, and if it was "free" software it likely included other baggage as well.

I find it necessary to do a reinstall of Windows from time to time, using a backup from the time when the world was a happier place. Some more recent software needs to be reinstalled of course, and any data on the system disk as well, which is a nuisance, but well worth the trouble.
