Vegas pro not rendering

joe-m1228 wrote on 10/21/2023, 3:36 PM

So I've been using Vegas pro for a really long time and I know very well that this program can be.. difficult to say the least. but over the last few weeks its been borderline unusable.

First is an issue with what I believe involves imported green screen videos. Basically every green screen will become corrupted in a way not working properly and also screwing up other mp4 videos I tried the fix in the video linked where you rename the compoundplugs file and that's meant to fix it but I can assure you that does not work unless I'm doing something very wrong. (also another video said to delete the counpountplug.dil folder which I did and that also changed nothing. Also tried uninstalling and re installing)

Second is the entire program running unbearably slow, for example if I click off onto another tab like google or whatever when I reclick on Vegas it takes no exaggeration 2 or more minutes to load in.

Finally and most annoyingly it is now crashing every time I try to render and this is even when I'm just rendering like 10 minutes at time lol. Or it renders the whole thing like the video in the second link.

So yeah what should I do?

Info

using Vegas pro 21

Processor - Intel I7 9700k

64 gigs of ram

used on a SSD with 2tb of storage

the size of the project I'm working on is big (like 44gig total)

If you need anything else just let me know

To repair the program from deleting necessary program files (you can't just delete decoders) try a reinstall and a reset. [sorry wrong link got pasted- now fixed]

Next I'd check for updated GPU drivers with help/driver update and Intel Driver & Support Assistant: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html
(make sure your Intel iGPU is enabled in bios- it should show up for decoding in preferences/ file io in VEGAS)

Then I'd get to the root of the problem which is media VEGAS doesn't work well with. Try re-encoding it all to ProRes422 using Shutter Encoder (ProRes works with alpha channels) and replace the media in VEGAS https://www.shutterencoder.com/

Options --> Preferences --> Close Media files when not the active application?

checked the drivers, they are all fine and I've already done a reinstall that didn't do much. As for the changing media file thing, does mean vegas all of sudden has a problem with mp4s?

I was responding to your second point, that is, if close media is checked and Vegas loses focus, i.e, you then switch to a different application, it rereads / reopens the media when returning to Vegas -- which can contribute to a perceived delay, especially on projects with several media clips.

As for problems with MP4s, I don't know anything about your media. Perhaps post a mediainfo report, and maybe someone might be able to help.

Edit: grammar

@joe-m1228 Did you also do a "reset'. RogerS's link looks incorrect so details here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

Doing a reset is important. Make sure you tick the box.
