Today I did a comparison of the opening times in big projects in different versions of Vegas Pro. I used the 3 types of media that I have plenty of, and projects based on real projects of mine. I did this mainly to see if the new VP14 build 201 improved on the previous build 189, which opened big HDV projects very slowly.
Each test had these conditions:
- 3 separate projects with lots of trimmed video events of the same type of media
- Lots of colour curves and colour corrector FX
- Audio previews were already built
- There was no offline media
- The project was already saved in the format native to that version of Vegas
- Default workspace
- Windows 10 version 1511. See my profile for my full system specs
- GPU acceleration off
Here are my results:
Some conclusions:
- VP10 is still fastest for opening DV and HDV-based projects, by quite some margin in the case of HDV.
- Big 29.976p UHD (3860x2160) projects open really really fast in everything that supports them.
- VP14 build 201 opens HDV projects much faster than the previous build of VP14, and also now faster than VP12 and VP13.
