Vegas Pro Stuck Crashing — WebView2 Error & Online Services Issue

RockyBenetton wrote on 3/4/2025, 2:07 PM

I’m facing a critical issue with Vegas Pro where the software becomes completely unresponsive when connected to the internet. Despite reaching out to customer support, reinstalling the software multiple times, and trying various fixes, the problem persists.

Here’s what happens:

  1. When I open Vegas Pro with an internet connection, the app launches but shows a blank screen and becomes unresponsive. (1st Image)
  2. If I launch Vegas Pro offline, the interface loads, but I receive the following error (2nd Image): "WebView2 failed initialization, error information follows: WebView2 was already initialized with a different CoreWebView2Environment. Check to see if the Source property was already set or EnsureCoreWebView2Async was previously called with different values."

Based on what I’ve gathered, this seems to be tied to Vegas Hub and its online services relying on Microsoft WebView2. It looks like Microsoft might be experiencing a service outage, which is causing the WebView2 component to fail, leading to Vegas Pro crashing or freezing.

I was provided with a BETA release by MAGIX support to address the issue. While resetting Vegas Pro allowed me to open it, the moment I accessed any online services — like Speech-to-Text — the app crashed again.

Additionally:

  1. The Vegas login window remains stuck on the password screen, endlessly buffering.
  2. It seems like there’s a cloud service issue either from Vegas' servers or Microsoft's WebView2 infrastructure.

Is anyone else encountering this problem? Would love to know if there’s a reliable workaround until the servers are stable again.

I’ve found a temporary workaround. It seems to be a localized problem — the servers in India appear to be affected. When I connected my VPN to a US server, everything worked perfectly fine. However, the moment I turn off the VPN, Vegas Pro crashes again.

I don't have a problem signing in. My problem, which has lasted months now, is that I can't download stock media.. I can search for media but when I click on a search result I just see three white dots and the media never loads. I can close that window so the hub isn't actually hanging.

What do you mean by vpn? Is there some setting for this within Vegas? I tried clicking the settings button (near top right in the hub after initiating a stock media search but saw no dialogue just a button with 3 vertical dots. I have yet to try the beta but doubt that will make a difference. Incidentally, I'm based in Japan.

A VPN is external to VEGAS and reroutes internet usage through its services for privacy. VEGAS Hub works in Japan.

I'd suggest a new post about your issue and try common fixes like reinstalling VEGAS and webview2 and doing a cache clear/reset of VEGAS.
