Vegas Pro8 reads AVCHD 25p as interalced

I shot 2 clips on my Canon HF10. 1st clip 25p. 2nd clip 50i.

I import the clips onto the timeline and right click the 25p clip>Properties>General Tab. Under the "Streams" section Vegas reports "Interlaced"

Can anyone else using AVCHD please confirm this on their system

Are you sure Canon HF10 doesn't use segmented frames for p-recording?

How do I tell?

Dunno. But many cameras record their progressive signal as segmented frames which are two fields with no temporal differences to keep the progressive output fit the format standards. If Vegas reads such a signal as interlaced this would be correct.

That's interesting, thanks for the info. I do some Googling to see what I can find on the cam.

Simple to check / fix.
R Click the media in the Project Media and change it to Progressive. If you don't see any interlace combing you're good to go.

BTW, if it is interlaced how does one check which field is first, upper or lower?

It should be upper first for PAL AVCHD format files.

The safest way is to check it on a CRT. If you have the field order reversed motion will appear very jerky. Anytime I'm in doubt I check it on a CRT. Too many times I've had video files flagged the wrong way around.

That said, if you set the Vegas internal preview monitor to Best / Full and don't see any interlace combing where there's fast motion rest assured, it isn't interlaced and you should set the field order to None / Progressive.
