Vegas Registration servers down?

prairiedogpics wrote on 6/18/2015, 2:13 PM
So I try to install Vegas 10 on my Win 7 laptop and on the first attempt I get an error that it failed (yes, I have good internet access)...tried two more times, two more failures, and then it sent me to the support link to supply the machine ID. That submission gives an error, as well.
So I'm dead in the water...What is the best phone number to call to sort this out.?

"The server was unable to complete the registration as requested. [-41]"

Nevermind...I found the Live Chat and they did the magic behind the scenes to complete registration.

That code means "too many activations". They are very good about renewing the activation count if clearly a bona-fide user, as you found ;-)

It doesn't help if they shut down for 4 days. I haven't been able to run Vegas since last weekend. I upgraded to Windows 10, then had to revert back to Windows 7 because several things weren't working right and slowing down the computer making it pretty much unusable, and during this, something with my .NET installation must have gotten hosed because the Vegas scripting engine wouldn't initialize. While trying to fix this (unsuccessfully), I re-installed Vegas twice, and hit this error. I haven't been able to be use Vegas since and I haven't been at my computer during the worse-than-bankers hours earlier this week until today..only to find out they are closed until Tuesday. This is unacceptable. If they feel the need to force this activation process on us, then they should be sitting by the phone waiting to deal with the inevitable issues that will arise.

done ranting, but I don't feel any better

I reinstalled & registered Vegas twice in the last three days and DVDA once w/o issues.

I have never had a registration knocked back, but perhaps one should always register manually using a computer ID code. Once you have this you presumably can reinstall Vegas indefinitely because you don't need to contact Sony. Of course if you change your computer hardware in the meantime, this won't work.

SCS has a counter for each time you register the product. Once you are down to zero, you can call them or go on the Chat, much faster, and get that counter reset. What is missing is that VP should give a proper message asking to contact SCS rather than throwing you an error.

yep so if you replace hard drives etc i suppose this will also have a negative outcome.

anyways thanks for the direction i think this is the reason. so i hope it is up and running soon.
i have always simply registered when doing a reprep as it never created problems before.

one issue for me was the curves for Pro Type Titler wasn't available on the upgrade version from pro 10 because i love that titler...so today using pro 11 then by accident right click and bang there it is! ....forehead slap a few times ....so i will most likely upgrade to 13 soon. but then i have to go and reinstall all the plugins like new Blue etc.

SCS has a counter for each time you register the product.

The counter must be X in Y timeframe vs a direct counter. I've registered more then some people here who have to contact support.

I agree on the proper error message. That would help. Like I said, I registered two times in two days & no issue.

prairiedogpics said he did it once and it got blocked. I'm guessing there's more to the story then just "I registered and it didn't work"... OR they like me more then other people who post here. :)
