Vegas render times vs HD Link

I captured 94 SECOND m2t clip with Vegas 6, put it on the timeline and rendered to CF Intermediate using the "Good" quality setting. It took 23 MINUTES to render with a final file size of 1.8 Gig. That's 14.7 times longer than real time for Vegas to create a good quality HD file that can be edited efficiently.

I captured the same clip using CineForm HD Link with it set to automatically convert to CF Intermediate (default "Medium" setting). After the real time capture stopped, the conversion process continued for another 55 seconds (149 seconds in total). The final file size was 1.4 Gig. So HD Link took 1.6 times longer than real time to create a good quality HD file that can be edited efficiently

Why does Vegas take 9 times longer than HD Link to create essentially the same file? OK the Vegas file ended up being 29% larger. But how does this account for Vegas being over 800% slower?

I posted to your enquiry on DVInfo.net at this link : http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=45329

Connect HD will have the speed advantage but it shouldn't be as great as you experience.

But even in the DV Info Net Link there is no anwer to the question at all. It is simply unacceptable, to render 23 Minutes for 94 seconds. Who will use such a system?

Desktop: PC AMD 3960X, 24x3,8 Mhz * RTX 3080 Ti (12 GB)* Blackmagic Extreme 4K 12G * QNAP Max8 10 Gb Lan * Resolve Studio 18 * Edius X* Blackmagic Pocket 6K/6K Pro, EVA1, FS7

Laptop: ProArt Studiobook 16 OLED * internal HDR preview * i9 12900H with i-GPU Iris XE * 32 GB Ram) * Geforce RTX 3070 TI 8GB * internal HDR preview on the laptop monitor * Blackmagic Ultrastudio 4K mini

Yes it is certainly a compelling reason to use Connect HD with Vegas 6.0, but there is probably a setting wrong as I don't remember Vegas renders taking anywhere near that long. I just did a test on a simple 12 second sequence --Vegas 5.0 (I don't have 6.0 on my home PC) took 40 sec and HDLink (Connect HD) took 14 seconds. Yes Connect HD is faster (probably for the reasons I list on DVInfo.net), but not faster to the amount reported.

I just rendered my 1:52 (i.e. 112 second) edited project to m2t. Vegas took 47 minutes, 25 times real time. I only had one Magic Bullet filter and it was active on only one 12 second clip.

I've got a dual Xeon 2.8 (each) system with nine drives, including a 5x36 Gig SCSI Raid 0 which I use for video.

Is this render time to be expected?

I'd blame a lot of that on MB, I've rendered from m2t to DVD mpeg-2 at Best and from memory it was about 3 times RT on dual Xeons @ 3GHz. Results were worth the wait.
