Vegas renders slow MPG2 & tape

Joseph69 wrote on 8/22/2003, 6:21 PM
I have both, a new PC & a new Mac G4 with Final Cut Pro
I think Vegas is much better for titles & general editing, which I use a lot off for making educational min documentaries for my hospital

I have a new note book , Pent 4 2400 Hz & 1GB Ram
It runs Vegas fine, but when I try to render to tape, or try to make an MPG2
it takes for ever

So what is the best way around this?

Also, my DVD BURNER, Hitachi, SEEMS TO BE incompatible with Vegas

What actually is......... a little KVM switch & does it combine the power of the computers

Don't make the mistake of only judging rendering times. While Vegas is slower then some other editors, it is much better in the editing phase, so total project time can be much shorter. Its the TOTAL TIME a project takes, not just the rendering time.

Thats fine, I agree Vegas is nice in initial editing phase, ........ but even a children's editing program, like I movie on my G4 MAC, renders to tape in real time, so is 10 times faster than Vegas..........

Can some one just tell me...how I can configure a PC so that it will do things much faster............. would a special video card help

How about a ' Video editing Card'

How about Extra RAM [ I have only one 1 GB ]....

Vegas isn't a children's program. Extra RAM doesn't help. A faster CPU will. Vegas doesn't support any hardware cards directly so there is no hardware rendering trick. Rendering through a video card may produce inferior results. One GB RAM is plenty.

Thanks for advice about video cards ........

I said I movie was a children's program.........not Vegas.........

So whats the best CPU, I thought my P4 at 2400 MHz was fine, but it isnt

What about a Xenon ?
Whats your credentials?
What is a DVD authoring program that will enable me to use MY Hitachi DVD burner.........do I need Roxio Toast ?

asking for credntials is a bit rude. People are willing to give advice, you can take or leave :D

well I am new to all this, you get all kinds of advice from every where

I am just a doctor, I dont about all this transient IT stuff, keeps changing by the minute

I may be wrong but isn't Toast just for Macs?

I would suggest you start another thread so it may catch attention as far as what burners don't work with DVD-A. There is a list of tested burners, but its short and pretty old dated by now. If your burner isn't supported I know Nero can burn DVD-a projects and Nero is pretty good as far as supporting a wider ranger of burners.

Your problem with rendering time is an organisational one. If you're sitting around waiting for Vegas to render, you need to organise your time better.

If you know it's going to take XX minutes to render, then choose the right time to do this - maybe while you're doing something else on the mac, or shopping or sleeping. That way you won't worry about this aspect.

Thanks Billy

do you mean that Nero could burn the DVD from the MPG2 made in Vegas ?
