Vegas Stream interfering with Microsoft Teams (or DroidCam)

TTTT wrote on 11/20/2021, 9:08 PM

I have recently updated to Vegas Pro 19 full package and installed everything without thinking what I will use or not.

So I have Vegas Stream. I also happen to have multiple sound interfaces on my computer. And I use DroidCam as a webcam.

In a totally different context, I sometimes have remote meetings using Microsoft Teams (in browser, using Brave browser). In Teams screen to setup the devices before joining the room, my image is replaced with a sentence writton in white on black background saying something like "Please turn off Vegas Stream". If I switch my sound output from my usual sound card (Asus Xonar Essence STX) to the one were I have the headphones (some Realtek integrated to motherboard), then the "error" message goes off and the expect image from DroidCam appears. But if I join the meeting room without changing output sound card, then the other person(s) will see the "Please turn off Vegas Stream" message for the all meeting.

Why does this happen?

(Now I don't actually stream so I can't as well just uninstall Vegas Stream.)

Can you change the default camera and audio in Teams to your webcam and not Stream? I also have both installed.

jetdv wrote on 11/21/2021, 7:08 AM

Do you need Stream running when using Teams?

Is Stream set to use the same cameras you're using in Teams?

You might send this question - with more details of your actual setup - to support @ newblueinc.com as well.

@RogerS I'm not sure if I understand .. I cannot really change "default" camera as I only have one (temporary) camera which is a phone... If I understand right you suggest that Vegas Stream is like a virtual camera... I will have to check that again.

@jetdv I don't really know, I think I have never launched Vegas Stream, or maybe I launched it once and closed it, it has only been installed along with the other software, so I'm even suprised that it "does" anything on my computer.

@TTTT As long as Stream is not running, it would not be touching any of your resources. It will only touch them if it has been started and is still running. I'd be interested in seeing what the message looks like. Also, you might reboot your system as Stream will not automatically start on a reboot. That way, if Stream had been started and is, somehow, still running in the background, you would know that it is no longer running.

RogerS wrote on 11/21/2021, 7:59 AM

Yes, for me it finds it like a virtual camera- check the settings.

TTTT wrote on 11/21/2021, 11:20 AM

@jetdv my computer was rebooted ... there were days or weeks since I installer Vegas 19 and the other programs, and I don't launch Stream (only possibly opened it once to see what it looks like and closed it).

@RogerS as I only use Teams in browser only for my current meetings, I don't have as many options, but I need to re-check this and for this I need meetings (I think I have some coming tomorrow).

My Teams is good at picking the wrong defaults but even in browser it's possible to change it.

TTTT wrote on 11/22/2021, 9:05 AM

Yes, I re-tested Teams in browser. And noticed things I missed or got wrong:

- There is a more advanced menu in the browser version too, I just hadn't look for it yet. It can select cameras and Stream appears there as a virtual camera.

- The message doesn't say "Please close Vegas Stream" but rather something like "Please OPEN Vegas Stream", but it disappear if I select different camera.

So yeah I was a bit too quick at thinking that there was a real issue, but it was confusing that the message disappear if I change audio output (which should have nothing to do with camera which is an input...)

@TTTT Can we see the actual message?

I did inquire about this and got this reply:

I wonder if this is actually the message “Please Open VEGAS Stream” and the problem is caused by Teams selecting it as the first available camera device. This is the virtual webcam. We have no control over what Teams chooses first.

In my case, it often chooses either Blackmagic WDM Capture or NewTek NDI Video, both of which simply provide a black image and I have to go in and reset it to a real webcam.

Thank you. Yes, this is indeed the same thing I concluded in my preview reply.
