Vegas to FCP

As a favor to me this great editor wants to take the stuff i've shot and put into 30 second clips and mix it up a bit. Unfortunately all my footage was captured with Vegas on PC while that editor is working on FCP4. What's the best way to deliver the fooateg to him so there is as little quality loss as possible. Will FCP open up AVIs (i assume it will need Vegas's codec???). Should i rather render those clps to QT with Animation codec? What else? Obviously i can deliver the stuff to him on external HD so i would prefer skiping the tape step

Any help advice is appreciated..

You did not specify if the footage you captured was DV or not.

If it's indeed DV, it'll read into Vegas just fine, and may require a render for final output.

Just render your footage out as per normal anc assuming the files will fit burn them as native AVIs onto a DVD-ROM. The Mac guy can copy them to his HDD and FCP will open them quite happily. Done this many times without any dramas. Well OK, the odd Macolite going into shock when he saw it would work might be an issue, smelling salts should be kept close at hand.

Short answer :

Vegas will read FCP's .MOV encoded with the DV codec.

FCP will read Vegas' AVI files encoded with the DV codec.

So no fear, all will work.
