Vegas uses Full Path not Relative Path ??

- I've got a project in...

C: \ Stuff \ Big Stuff \ Hot Project \ Clips
- Actually the VEG project file is in the "Hot Project" folder and the clips are in the sub folder named "Clips"

- If I close the project then rename the "Big Stuff" folder to "whatever"

- Then try and open the VEG file in "Hot Project" it's can't find the .avi files in the "Clips" folder

- When Vegas 5.0 tells me it can't find the file Clip 01.avi I can see it is using the Full Path...
-
if I just change the parent folder name back to what it was then all works again.

- Looked in preferences but didn't see an option for Relative Path...

How can I get Vegas 5.0 to use the "Relative Path" to my clips so I can rename a parent folder if I wish without breaking the project veg file.

Thanks for any help.

As far as i know there isn't any way to change this. However, if Vegas can't find the files when opening a project there is a dialog box that offers various ways to search for them. Choose the one to browse to replacement files and browse to the new path. After that Vegas is smart enough to find the rest of the files in that same folder.

Newer versions seem to handle this task a little more intelligently. Often Vegas 7 & 8 will find all the files if the .veg file is in the same folder as the media without even having to ask you.

Yes. Vegas 5 will also find everything if it is in the same folder with the veg file... a good reason to keep everything... all your clips... and all your assets... b-roll video , images, sound files, etc... in the same folder with the project veg file.
