Vegas Video 2.0 mpeg codec problem

josh_ec_prod wrote on 10/9/2003, 6:35 PM
I've used Vegas 2.0 for quite some time. I've had to reinstall it a few times because of hard drive troubles and whatnot. The most recent time when I went to render using the Mpeg 1.1 codec it required that I register the codec. When I did it gave me a error message saying that "Liscense is an Activation Code."

What does that mean?

I've tried contacting Cust. Service throught the new Sony links and have yet to get a response (2 days).

Any help would be appreciated.

:)

The MPEG encoder requires registration due to the licensing issues with the codec owner on Vegas 2.0.

yet it won't let me register it.

It may well be because Vegas 2.0 has a different codec license than 3.0 or 4.0 have.
I don't know if Sony took on the Sonic Foundry liabilities for legacy products going back that far or not. I'm sure you'll hear from a Sony EPM in here though.

Vegas 2.0 uses the Ligos MPEG encoder, which is a discontinued product and is the reason you are unable to register it. Customer Support should be able to get you set up with the activation code you need to use it.

I'll pass this along to them as I see you've already submitted a request.

In the future, please use our new tools for requesting assistance and you should have a better support experience (you had emailed to a SoFo address which is not closely monitored). You can access these tools from the Support menu at the top of all of our web pages.

Edit: Just noticed you originally said you used our new links to communicate with Customer Support. Not sure what could have happened, did you use the Support menu from our Sony web page?
