What do you mean by it does not work?
It doesn't install?
It doesn't run?

Did you install XP then install the service pack?

Or is this from an XP install with built in service pack?

Thanks for answering my questions

It does not run, it just sits there then the pc locks up after a few seconds.

This is an xp install with the service pack built in. I imagine its the same if you just run the sp1 and do the update.

I hope an update comes out quickly, this is my program of choice.

We have tested updating XP to SP1 and this is the first I hear of this. If you could please post your config maybe we can figure it out. You don't happen to have an ATI card with the latest driver, do you?

As a matter of fact i do have an ATI card, i just downloaded the drivers for the card today. Its a RADEON 64 MB VIVO card, i am using the latest drivers for the card put out by ATI. Upon closer inspection when Vegas Video freezes, as i reboot the pc it shows a dialog of the crash, and it appears to be from the video driver. I am not sure if that is whats causing the freeze.

When you say my config, i hope you are talking about what i am going to put here.

Video: ATI RADEON 64 MB VIVO
Ram: 1GB
HDD: 4-74MB SCSI 10000 Ultra3
Soyo Dragon+ MotherBoard
Sony DVD-ROM
Phillips CDRW
Creative Labs CDR

Thats about it..... I hope its the right info.

Thanks.

Go back to the 2.1 drivers and your system will be more stable but given ATI's current ability to write drivers, expect occasional lockups in various applications.

Check the forums at www.rage3d.com for details

That's most likely the culprit. ATI has been made aware of this issue in the mean time the solution is to lower the accelaration of the card or revert to the previous version of the drivers.

To do this: go to the Display properties and select advanced. In the advanced dialog chage to the troubleshooting tab and lower the hardware acceleration to disable all DirectDraw and Direct3D accelerations.

Hope this helps.

If you do get Vegas up and running again id be interested in knowning wether or not you are able to render to Windows Media formats. Some users have reported an issue with clean installs of SP1 and losing the ability to render to WMA /WMV. We have not been able to reproduce this in house.

P.S. you could set the acceleration back when you are not using our apps.

That did the trick, thanks for pointing that out. What good is the hardware acceleration for anyway if you don't mind me asking.
SonyIMC wrote on 9/7/2002, 12:28 AM
The hardware aceleration slider is for fixing mis-behaving video drivers. It offloads graphics procedures that are done in the card to ones done in software.

Thanks, i set the slider to one notch less than max and it seems to be wroking reliably.

Thanks for all the help.

Dear SonicIMC: FYI, I had a similar problem with the VV3 demo and W2k Pro using the ATI All In Wonder 7500. I followed your advice and lowered the hardware acceleration one notch and the problem was solved. BTW, this is a better solution than reverting to the older driver as without it some capture formats won't play back (Most notably MPEG-2).

Are there any other W2k Pro issues that we should know about?

Thanks!
