vegas video 3 is crashing my system!!! HELP

Hello,

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder 8500DV graphics card installed in my computer, which does some of my video capturing from my VCR. I recently installed an updated driver set by ATI called CATALYST 2.2. After installing this program Vegas Video locks up my PC every time I try and start it and I have to shut it off to get out of the crash. It is a pretty major crash since I cannot hard boot the computer to get it to restart, it has to be physically shut off. There is some conflict between my graphics card’s new drivers and the Vegas Video program. Has anyone else noticed this problem that has an ATI 8500DV card with the new drivers installed?

I tried completely uninstalling Vegas and reinstalling it with no luck. It still locked up my PC every time I tried starting the program.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Steve

Having the same problem with Vegas Video and Sound Forge. I have a Hercules
3D Prophet 8500 LE which uses the Radeon 8500 Chip and ATI's Catalyst 2.2 driver set. You describe the same symtoms I'm having. Since it seems to be happenning also with Sound Forge I believe there might be a conflict in the startup routine both apps are using. They scan normally for the plugins
before the interface comes up and during this process both apps stop the whole system. I haven't found any fixes posted anywere, hopefully someone has an answer.

Have you reported it to the catalyst 2.2 feedback team? Here is a link to their driver feed back:

http://apps.ati.com/driverfeedback/index.asp

ATI's support has been getting better these days so maybe the more people that report this the faster it will get corrected.

I also submitted for help via the email support for Sonic Foundry. If I find out anything I will post it.

In several forums I have recently read about problems surfacing after installing the latest catlyist drivers, not just SF users either. Quite a few AfterFX users have noticed this. If you can located some earlier drivers and roll back to those, it might take care of it. If you do this, please posts your results here!

I did a system recover back to before installing the catalyst 2.2 drivers (back to Catalyst 2.1). Catalyst 2.1 driver set works fine with Vegas Video and all my other applications.

I am Having the same problem with Vegas Video 3.0c Build 138. I am using a PowerColor graphic card based on Radeon 8500 LE (64 MB)and ATI's Catalyst 02.2 driver set (WinXP 6.13.10.6118 EFG) on Windows XP Professional running on AMD Athlon XP 1600. My motherboard is Shuttle AK35GTR, based on VIA KT266A. I am using VIA 4in1 driver version 440V(a)P3 and a 768 MB DDR memory. You describe the same symtoms I'm having. I believe there might be a conflict between the Catalyst 02.2 driver set and Vegas Video. As soon as I execute the Vegas Video application, it runs for almost 10 seconds before locks up that I have to press the restart button. Windows XP locks up when Vegas Video is trying to run, with or without Hauppage WinTV Go.

When I am using the Win XP driver version 6071 from the Windows Update, it runs excellently without any locks up. I have sent an error reporting to ATI as well. Hopefully someone has an answer.

Cheers,
MR

i have the same problem here, Vegas Video 3.0c Build 138 with ATI Radeon 64 DDR VIVO and ATI's Catalyst 02.2 driver set (WinXP 6.13.10.6118 EFG) on Windows XP Professional

the 2 solutions i've found (from rage3d.com forums ):

1. right click on your desktop and choose properties > settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot and lower the hardware acceleration one step

2. use the ati2dvag.dll file from earlier drivers.

To do this, obtain a copy of the ati2dvag.dll (links below), boot into Safe Mode and copy it into your C:\windows\system32. Just press yes when it asks to overwrite then reboot into Normal Mode.

This link is for the Windows XP 6107 ati2dvag.dll driver.

This link is for the Windows 2000 6107 ati2dvag.dll driver.

This link is for the Windows XP 6094 ati2dvag.dll driver that alaindc reported to fix the Mozilla browser issue. Thanks to alaindc for finding this out. (sorry I don't have the Windows 2000 version on my pc)

i've tested both solutions and they work,
i'm now using 6094 dll until ATI releases an update to these BAD drivers ...

I had the same problem -- checked with both ATI (who pointed the finger at Sonic) and Sonic, who in turn told me my best option was to return to the 2.1 Catylist drivers (see below).

For future reference, instead of writing in a panic, just make a mental note of the most recent change you've made to your computer prior to the lockups and change it back. That's likely the source of your problems.

Hello,
Thank you for the email. This is currently a known issue with the
newer 2.2 Catalyst drivers. ATI's support was correct in stating that you
should go back to the previous drivers. We are currently working on
figuring out who's end this fault would be and working towards a fix.

I read this on ATI's site and was wondering if anyone made the same mistake that I did.

http://www.ati.com/support/products/pc/radeon8500/winxp/radeon8500winxpdrivers.html

>>>>>The following products require a DIFFERENT version of the ATI Multimedia Center when used with RADEON 8500/RADEON 8500LE products:
ATI-TV WONDER
TV WONDER VE
TV WONDER USB Edition<<<<<<

It appears that 8500 based boards require a different download then the first link for the capture software dated 8-9-02.

I automatically opened the first link and installed it on my PC. Maybe this is what the problem is (in regards to the 8500 boards).

Any thoughts?

Never mind!!

The first link is the right one for the all-in-wonder dated 8-9-02!

I don't know what I was thinking of.

heedo,

Is you system stable after doing this?

Have these file modifications affected any other features (i.e. gamming, TV viewing etc). I would love to try this but I am concerned that something else will go haywire.

Thanks
