Sundance Media Group is going to show Vegas Video 4 editing at CreativeCOW West event on February 18-20, 2003. Check their site <url>http://www.sundancemediagroup.com</url>. So we should expect Vegas Video 4 in first quarter of 2003. That's good news.
That's kinda what I'm looking to hear. Discussions of dollars, length of view, how to view. Everything else is just noise, this late in the game. I was thinking between 50.00 and 100.00. It's gonna take a lot of time setting up the html pages so folks can see the info that will be on the board, and see things as screen shots for the areas where fine detail prevents the webcam from picking up stuff on the projection screen. The loss of ability to ask questions is a big one too. If we could get a web connect in the room, we might be able to set up a mailbox for the session and viewers could send in their questions during the seminar.
Yep, I would have to agree. Guilty as charged! ;-)
> The sessions are Sundance Sessions only.
OK, I was confused (no big surprise here). I thought these were sessions that were included in the Cow conference price. (sorry)
> Whether we're showing a near release Beta, or showing the actual released product, no one knows.
I would have to agree with Tom that having a videotape of the session would be the best delivery mechanism especially since the Vegas 4 session is for a product that you can’t buy yet. If it were not available for a month or more later, then you would have tendency to forget what you learned because you can’t go back and immediately apply it. At least with videotape, you can break it out again and watch it when you finally do get a copy of Vegas 4. I realize that purchasing the videotape instead of attending a live session might negate getting any special offer but perhaps you could use some special offer (i.e., discount coupon) as an incentive to buy the videotape.
As an owner of Vegas 3, I expect to get some kind of upgrade incentive anyway. It might not be as much as you are offering, but I don’t even know what price we’re talking about for Vegas 4 yet. I couldn’t afford Vegas at $500 and only purchased it because it was an affordable $199 upgrade from VideoFactory. I’m hoping for a $149 upgrade to Vegas 4 like the upgrade from Vegas 2 to Vegas 3 was. If Vegas 4 is going to have some ridiculous price tag (i.e., $799 with a $200 discount for existing customers), I can’t afford the $500 to upgrade anyway and therefore don’t need the training. So for me, there are too many unknowns about the price of Vegas 4, what features does it have that I think I need to justify the upgrade, etc. to be able to put a price on training. I would agree, that a $39.95 videotape is within reach of most people.
We absolutely won't do a videotape for 39.95. The sessions are 8 hours, and just the editing alone would be huge. So, we might do a DVD at 100.00, but that's about it. Volume is the only way this could be profitable, and unless we're gonna sell 200 copies of the DVD, it's not worth the effort.
2 cams x 8 hours- 2000.00 plus$$$
Editing-24-30 hours 1500.00
Replication-2000.00
marketing, etc...it all adds up.
Sorry Spot... I didn't realize that the whole 8 hours was about Vegas. I agree that the editing required to make a reasonable tape would be way over the top. I figured the Vegas part of it to be an hour or so. My bad. I wish I could attend this, but unfortunately I'll be returning from one trip and getting ready for another. I thank you for all the cool stuff on your website and I hope you figure out some way to recap some of this important info for the rest of us who can't attend. I'd pay the $100 for that level of training easily and/or a DVD (although you can't get a lot more on a DVD). I'd even pay up front because I trust you guys from past examples of your abilities.
I apologize for the misunderstanding. Obviously, even compressed 8 hours won't fit on VHS tape.

Well, there are 8-hour tapes. But regular tapes aren't that expensive. Use two or three or four. As for editing, the actual attendees don't get that. They just get realtime whatever happened. And they like it. We could "endure" the same. Come on. Reality TV is big. This is turning into a choice between "everything" and "nothing" and for some reason we are picking "nothing". I don't see the logic.

You were expecting logic? When have we ever been logical? Good point on the multiple tape idea though. It takes longer to produce them than it would DVD's, but the per-tape consumable cost is probably less assuming they'd have to burn the DVD's. The web download sounds interesting, but it's going to take a lot of bandwidth to watch 8 hours even at a reduced resolution. I wish I could go... :(
If you are REALLY interested in seeing this on web, or seeing a DVD on the seminar, rough, barely cut, etc, drop us a note at sundancemediagroup.com
info@sundancemediagroup.com is the best addy...If we get enough interest, we'll do it. Otherwise, you'll all just miss out.
We'll start putting some V4 tutorials up soon too. Just after the pub beta.
Too bad i didn't check in when this topic was new. I'm interested to know if the idea would be to broadcast strictly live or have the stream(s) available for a period - say a day or two. This would make a difference in my decision to purchase it - simply because if I'm taking it in at home, I expect I'll be interrupted at some point. And I'd also want to see it at a time when I'm most comfortable taking it in. I'd pay $50. Asking questions isn't important to me, I'm interested in being a viewer.
