Vegas Video 4 - rendering (vs. VirtualDub)

Hi. I have this question. For example I used some PAL template (I think 768 x 576 square) and loaded an avi file of the same resolution. Then when I render it it took too much time. I didn't use any effects, I only rendered it. The speed was about 2 fps. The speed increased when I set rendering quality to draft or preview (but I don't want to have bad quality avi file).
When I did this in VirtualDub the speed was about 7,5 fps and that's big differnce for me.
Can you tell me please what I am doing wrong?

Right click the file, properties on the SB and make sure your properties are set the same as the for that file and the same is used when trying to render. print to tape

If you don't do anything to the AVI except cut, then the quality setting that you get to using the Custom button will not make any difference. The fact that it makes a difference in render speed indicates that you have done something to the video file. Check the track header and also the event opacity levels to make sure they are both at 100%. Also make sure that the track fX and event fX icons are gray. If they are green, then you have assigned some effects to the track or event, and this will cause it to render, rather than just copy the AVI file.

you also didn't say what compression the file is. It doesn't sound like it's a DV file.

i t will be much much faster rendering in virtual dub for non DV and for image seq. -- one of the reasons i do all cropping and resizing in v-dub before vegas .. its even faster in avisynth ..

better resizing filters also ..


for DV only avi 's .... this may not be the case , i dont know ..

Thank for your help. I find out that I had various fps of source avi and template. When fps is the same it is much faster (nearly as VirtualDub).

Some programs will actually cut the MPJPEG files; others like Vegas, will re-render the files, which will be slower.
