Vegas Video/Dazzle DVC II card problem

Hello Group,

I am trying to capture from my Dazzle Digital Video Creator II and am receiveing the following error message in VV:
"The device 'Dazzle DVC II PCI Device' could not be opened. Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user."

I tried completely uninstalling Dazzle's Movie Star software with same results. Anybody got any ideas?

I've been through the "Dazzle Nightmares" myself. Finally dumped both of them. I tried one of their low end units to no avail; then went out and bought the big Dazzle Bridge and that was terrible. I still have it collecting dust. Very unstable and unreliable. In my opinion, Dazzle makes toys...not high quality products.

It's a worthwhile investment that works great with Vegas and other software NLEs. It will save you a lot of grief.

The Dazzle DVC II will not work with anything except Movie Star (from Dazzle). The DirectX filters that they use are constructed "on-the-fly" and even though it shows up as a capture device, it does not actually have a WDM driver to capture with.

Wow! Wish I would have know about that one before I got the Dazzle DV-Bridge. Seems to do everything the DV-Bridge does an more ... Plus does not have all the disconnect probelms that the Dazzle one has.

I may end up getting another DV device <g>.

Thank you Steve and Roy! Regretably I believe your assertions are correct. A new capture device is inevitable. I couldn't even get the Movie Star software to work correctly with the Dazzle card. I could capture clips with it but it would not let me edit at all even after downloading new drivers for my graphics card.

Anybody have an opinion about Snazzi?

The DVC II does what it is designed to do fairly well, at least for my two places of work. Its MPEG1s are just as good as those encoded with the grossly overpriced Optibase unit I bought on sale for 20,000 CAD in 1995 and the high data rate MPEG2s we make for DVD are crisp and clean. DVC II makes MPEG2s in real time; no rendering. Movie Star's only real use is trimming the MPEG2 clips prior to adding them to a DVD project. Maybe there are better units on the market now but this one has paid for itself several times and I am sure we will continue to use it until it dies. I am not being defensive, just commenting on a revenue generating tool.

On the subject of junk, I've got four old AVID 5400 rpm 9 gig HDs, a DLT unit a Pinnacle DC 50, three ZIP drives and a DV500 all gathering dust in the storage room, waiting for the next material surplus date.
