Jim,
At this point Video Capture is not enabled in the Vegas Video beta so
at this point, yes, you have to capture external to Vegas and then
open the media in Vegas.

Since I have not actually seen the Vid Cap for Vegas I do not know
what it will be capable of once it is enabled but perhaps Caleb will
drop by later to address this more specifically.

The details are not all in yet but I do have an answer to your
question. We will only support capture through firewire using a
completely OHCI compliant card.

NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOO!!!!!!

sorry.. Seriously, PLEAASE don't only suport Firewire vidcap cards! There are thousands of us out there using "traditional" analog and S-Video capture devices (check out http://webboard.pinnaclesys.com) who need an app within which we can capture AND closely edit audio. One look at Adobe Premiere's sorry- ass audio implementation and you'll know what I mean. Please don't abandon us analog video users. Include support for Pinncle's DC30 series of cards, and you've got a sale right here. Firewire may be the future, but the present is nice too. Thanks MK Jason Robinson wrote: >>The details are not all in yet but I do have an answer to your >>question. But unfortunately the decision has already been made to only include
the firewire support at this time.

I certainly hope that you will stick with us, though, becuase I am
given to understand that Sonic Foundry is very responsive to people
about feature sets and, while there just is not enough time to
include anything new at this stage of development, there is always
the possibility that demand for 'traditional' capture technology
support will be strong enough to warrant the addition down the road.

Sorry-- I wish I could just say 'yes' to everything people asked for
becuase it is so much more fun to be able to tell people stuff they
can get excited about. Unfortunately, in this case I have to bring
you this bad news and just try and garnish it with a hope for the
future. (Ick! I gotta stop reading dime novels-- I sound like a
Successories catalog)

I too am very sorry you won't be offering a capture utility for
analog cards. There are no good capture apps out there for good
control over audio.... Darn. I'm REALLY bummed.

The capture tools that will ship with the final version of Vegas
Video will include DV capture and DV print-to-tape. It is possible
that we will have some limited MJPEG capture functionality, although
I cannot guarantee it at this time. There are no capture tools
included with the public beta. For now, use your existing capture
tools.

We are aware of the need for a good, universal capture app and are
considering developing it in the future- sorry- no promises!
