Vegas Video doesn't burn!

Was just in the process of buying Vegas Video 3.0 until I have seen something I must ask a question on. From what I see and read, am I right in assuming that Vegas Video 3.0 won't actually "burn" a DVD. Am I correct in assuming that you need to "buy" other software to actually burn the DVD. If my assumptions are correct, then the $500.00 Vegas Video is only good for capturing and editing your video and getting it "ready" to burn and in fact, as i understand it, you wouldn't want to even encode it to mpg2 because if you have to bring the editie movie into other software to make movie chapters and then burn it, from what I see, you would want to leave it in .avi format. Please tell me all my assumptions are wrong and that Vegas Video 3.0 will "burn" a DVD. I can't believe for $500.00, all it does basically is edit. Thanks.

You are correct; it won't burn DVDs.

I wouldn't call it merely and editor though. If you need to edit video or audio, Vegas is one of the most powerful tools available, and just about the easiest to use as well. You can do a lot more with it than just cut scenes together.

So does that mean that it won't burn a DVD. I understand that it is one of the more highly recommended editor's around which is why I was considering it in the first place but I also expected it to burn the finished product. It burns VCD's, data cd's, why would it not burn the finished DVD. Seems like it leaves you hanging a bit but then you really didn't answer my main question. Will it or will it not burn a DVD. Thanks for your reply and hope you can answer my main concern.

Ummm, the first statement in my reply was "it won't burn DVDs". Hope that answers your question. It doesn't do data CDs either.

I am sorry, I didn't see that first line. Again, I thank you for your reply and I not giving up on Vegas Video yet. I would like to ask you one more question, then I'll stop, I promise. Would this work?

1. Capture the video using Vegas Video, edit it, title it, edit the sound then save it (as a .avi) file.

2. Import that .avi file into say Ulead DVD workshop. Create the chapter points then save it again as a .avi file.

3. Bring it back into Vegas Video and encode it to mpg2 and save it (the reason I would like to encode it in Vegas Video instead of Ulead Workshop is because I understand the new MainConcept encoder in Vegas Video is very good).

4. Bring the encoded .mpg2 file back into Ulead Workshop and burn it. Would this work. I really appreciate your time. Thanks.

For $50 or so get Ulead's DVD Movie factory or similar entry level DVD authoring application. It adds chapters and burns to DVD.

Don't be so shocked Vegas don't burn DVD's. Few editors (if any) in its price range do. I like many (I assume) wish it would do chapters and "burn" to DVD, maybe it will it version 4, but even if it don't its a great application.

21juniora,

You don't have to make it so hard on yourself. Capture, edit and encode to MPEG2 from Vegas. Choose a DVD authoring program that doesn't re-render imported MPEG2's (I use Dazzle DVD Complete), set-up your menu's and chapters and burn your DVD.

21juniora - As to the cost - you should be able to buy VideoFactory in the US for $69.97 [just been slashed from $99.00]. Use the Vegas upgrade option of $199.99. I make that an investment of around <= $275.00 . IMHO, a full and comprhensive, function-rich NLE for leass than $300.00? That has to be vakue - yes? Hey you could then spend what you saved on either the U-Lead's DVD MovieFactory [thats what I use ] OR splash out on their DVD Workshop, which will do "Video" Menu Chapters as well! AND you still have money to go down the pub!

Thanks for the information. I just thought that if I encoded the Vegas Video file to mpg2 then imported it into Dazzle Complete (I have that program as well as Studio 8, Video Studio 6.0) once I set the chapters and menu's, it would re-encode it. Are you saying that Dazzle Complete can be set to not re-encode. Thanks for your help.

Boy. Your part about heading down to the pub is sounding better all the time!

Yes

But slightly different order to what you are suggesting.

1) Capture video using Vegas, edit it,title it,edit the sound & then save it(as a .avi) file OR you can render the MPEG from the timeline.

2) Take the MPG files to Uleads DVD workshop, create menus & chapters then Burn

(You create chapter points in the authoring program not the editing)

21juniora,

Dazzle DVD Complete does not re-encode imported MPEG2's as long as they are compliant.

Thanks to everybody for your help. I bought it! Will play with the final mpg2 in either Dazzle DVD complete or Ulead Video Studio 6 since I already have these unless someone knows of problems with either one of these. I can't see buying more software if I don't have to. Thanks again.
