Vegas Video Titles

videoguy wrote on 9/2/2002, 11:58 PM
I use Adobe premier and a program that does great titles by inscriber called titlemotion. I was wondering if there is any program out there that would do great titles in vegas video. If there is, I would like to stop using premier all together. If anyone wants to check it out for themselve the web site is www.inscriber.com

Hi videoguy,

If your edition of TM can output .tga sequences (or uncompressed .avi w/alpha), you can use them in Vegas. (You may have to adjust the pixel dimensions.)

You can also use Pinnacle TitleDeko for Premier, running standalone, exporting .tga files and resizing dimensions to 655x480. My TD for Premier doesn't feature animations but it has nice styles "off the shelf".

The title-tools in Vegas are very nice. They can be keyframed to scale, track, kern and position over time; and can be stylized with fx and compositing within Vegas.

I'll drink to that---explore beneath the surface and you will be amazed at what Vegas can do--

There is no need to resize the titles to 655x480 whatsoever. All elements used in DV or analog editing should match the video frame resolution. If you are working in 720x480 or even 640x480 the exported TGA files should match accordingly. The image safe area as portrayed in TitleDEKO is accurate according to the video frame resolution. Resizing the exported image to 655 only distorts the image.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but...

"There is no need to resize the titles to 655x480 whatsoever." is open to question.

If new forum guests care to review Vegas Help or the manual, it is very clear that 655x480 is optimal for still images.

OR, guests may wish to search this forum for information on still images and read the numerous posts by SoFo engineers who recommend 655x480.

Accurate indeed.

655x480 is recommended for bringing in still images when you can't set the pixel aspect ratio in the program generating the image (i.e., most paint programs, including Photoshop last time I looked).

If you can set the pixel aspect ratio in the generating program, such as a good titler, then do so for improved sharpness. NTSC = 720 x 480 with a PAR of 0.9091.

Videoguy:
"GG" posted some info on a software titling product named "Ulead Cool 3D". I got it and it is great: easy to learn; comes with cookie-cutter presets; also allows the user to customize, set keyframes, get as detailed as you want. It's also inexpensive! It generates AVI files that can be used in VV3. Check it out at www.ulead.com.

And I'll drink to that. Explore VV's titling capabilities. You won't be disappointed.
