Vegas / Windows not recognizing camera

I'm borrowing a Sony DCR-TRV900 camera to capture some footage because my camera (Canon) is giving me problems.

I just upgraded my mobo and cpu. Windows XP sees my capture card (TI, ohci compliant) but when I go to the V5 capture utility it doesn't see the camera.

I've captured with this card on my previous mobo so I know the card will work. On my old setup whenever I plugged my Canon camera in XP would pop up with the plug and play dialog asking what to do.

With the new setup I don't get this p-n-p dialog coming up. The card is listed in the system hardware list properly.

I have the camera turned on to VTR.

What do I need to do to get Vegas / Windows to recognize the camera is there?

My understanding is that I don't need any special drivers, is this correct?

TIA

no special drivers needed, but have you tried a different cable? Cables often go bad.
Try deleting the 1394 card in controlpanel>system>hardware, then rescan for changes. See if that activates the camera.
In Vidcap, do you have Automatically connect to new devices checked in prefs?
