Vegas won Editor's Choice - Videomaker Magazine

Chanimal wrote on 1/19/2004, 12:02 PM
I thought someone else might have mentioned it but I haven't seen it. Vegas won the Editor's Choice for best advanced video editor in this months special "Best of the Year" edition from Videomaker. Of course Adobe won "best multimedia video suite" (smart move Videomaker to ensure ongoing ad revenue). Apple also won an award for best editing value with Final Cut Express, but the "best 'advanced editing' software" still went to Vegas.

Let's hear it for the Vegas folks!

Just for fun...................................................................

I guess this means that some of you now consider Videomaker a "real" magazine?
Some past forum quotes:

2001:
"Videomaker magazines special winter edition "Video Gear" had 2 page article about VV, not as good as it could have been but at least the secret is out...
This with out an Add taken out...
Now hope that a real article will be done by a writer that understands editing..".

2002:

"I wish these people would give real world reviews like the stuff a VV3 editor vs a FCP editor, vs a Avid Express editor, vs a Premiere editor would argue about. They can't because of advertising dollars I guess.
The first mention that I have seen about VegasVideo in a consumer magazine..."

2003:

"Finally, a reviewer who actually took the time to learn the product before the review. I was shocked and disappointed with Computer Videomaker's editor's choice award to Premier--have they actually used Premier (still no "real" real-time (without dual processors)), still a buggy, clumsy application. I felt like cancelling my subscription...the traitors (I say this even having launched product for Adobe). "

2003:

"Videomaker is definetely an Adobe Premier biased magazine. You can lead
the horse to water but you can't make it drink."

Anyway Videomaker.........good choice.

Not me. ;-)

99% of magazine reviews aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Good, bad, indifferent reviews. The point is the REVIEWER is typically clueless, doesn't really know the product more often than not never used it before or not beyond the basic level Kind of like asking your Aunt Molly to watch open heart surgery and then rank the surgeon's style.

The more important point is that a lot of people DO read these magazines and rely on them to help make purchasing decisions.

A positive review of Vegas in a popukar magazine can only help build momentum for the product and help Sony feel they have spent their money well.

I think the point to remember here is that this WASN'T a review. Rather it was a reward. The reward came from what was probably a conglomerate of people's opinion on what they have seen, heard and experienced.

Well I guess the editors (and all involved in the decision making process) of Videomaker finally kissed the frog and found a prince! :D

And what a handsome prince Vegas makes! ;)

Vegas is feminine--no doubt---Why do we have an obession in this country with rating and awards?

To be honest with you all-I really do not give a crap what other people opinion on products are. I try and make up mine mind. Vegas is the best for me and that is why I am using it-not because someone said so.
Giving award to Vegas help too.

That's fine if you don't care about other people's opinions, but keep in mind that if enough other people think it's crap, especially influential people like magazine publishers, you may find that you will have to enjoy the version you are now using from now on because the sales figures may not justify updating it.

Hello, I am new to this site. I noticed this post as I was browsing through, looking for tidbits of info on Vegas. Just thought I would mention that I got the inspiration to buy Vegas due to an article in Videomaker mag (issue from sometime in the fall).

I love using Vegas, I am new to DVD authoring, but already my friends and family are impressed with what I've made. So, I do look to special interest magazines to assist me in my purchase decisions regarding DVD authoring.

vegas is definately female. Its the only thing that can compete with my hot half dressed wife for my attention on a Friday night!

Tha sad part about "influential people" is that they have no idea( most of the time) about full potencial of product they are writting off. I hope that Vegas will not paid attencion to someone bad opinion and keep on going.
The ParticleIllusion it is great addition to Vegas and I think that Sony should look into that. I am not proffesional in sence of video editing( hobby), but I did many cool effects and short clips, and that would take me a lot more time to do with other software. Keep of going Vegas.
