Vegas won't recognise camcorder

For some reason Vegas Pro 8.0b isn't recognising my Sony A1E in either DV or HDV mode, although I've previously captured both DV and HDV successfully. Neither will it recognise my DV camacorders in DV capture mode. I've tried launching the capture application and then connecting the camcorder and also connecting it beforte launching both Vegas and the capture utility.

Is there an independent HDV and/or DV capture utility that will capture in the correct codec for Vegas?

All of the cameras will export happily to other firewire devices, and to an independent DV capture application on the same computer.

Can anyone please advise me how to fix this? If I need to re-0install Vegas, please can anyone tell me where Vegas store tshe Preferences that I've set up so that I can copy it to avoid having to go through all that set-up again?

I have the same issue.... I have read on other forums that Vegas only seems to capture from Firwire cards that use a Texas Instruments chipset.

The card I use does not, so I am having that issue. However, I have also seen that most folks are going with CineForm NeoHD for their captures.. I tried the demo version and it works very well indeed. That said, it is not cheap either.. I have also tried HDsplit, which also seems to work, but the Cineform product is very visably superior in every respect.

I had a similar problem. Mine was that I had other Fire-wire hardrive attached. When I took off the Fire-wire hard-drive, I could save to C: drive. Vegas has many issues. I really like the ease of the program, but I am getting tired of all the problems I am having. Red frames crashes etc etc. I spend half my time trying to find work arounds.

Thanks for the replies. It seems that the issue of firewire drive being connected at the same time may have been the culprit. I disconnected it before booting up, switched on the camera, and it was recognised immediately!

Thanks for the tip, Paul

Thanks for the info re Cineform Neo HDV, but now that I've got Vegas HDV capture working OK I con't justify splashing out this amount of cash. I've downloaded HDV Split, but initially had trouble finding the correct version of ffdshow to make the prview work. After sveral donloads that didn't have the configuration functionality referred to in the HDV Split ReadMe file, I eventually found the correct version here:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=173941&package_id=199421&release_id=469925

Everything now works fine! I shall keep HDV Split as a useful stand-alone capture utility, but unfortunately it's nothing like as vesatile as Scenalyzer Live (SCLive) which I use for capture DV material.

Many thanks.
