Vegas won't recognize Panasonic HD1400

Using Vegas Pro 8 and the capture tool will not recognize the Panasonic AJ-HD1400. When I select the 1394 input I get "Device not Available". I get this when the deck firewire output is set for either DV or HD out. I have installed the updated driver the way sony support has recomended but still no luck.

Please help.

Did Sony support say that it was possible for Vegas to see this deck?

If I remember correctly, PPRo couldn't see it either unless you had a Axio system. But maybe that's just for HD.

When I first e-mailed them they didn't say that these two were not compatible. I have sent another request to customer support and I am awaiting their reply..

Well, as far as I know Panasonic doesn't make it easy for NLE vendors to connect to their DVCPro equipment. I'd kind of hope that any NLE could connect in DV25 mode but have no expectation that you could connect in DVCPro50 or HD modes. FCP can do it, presumably some or all Avid products can do it, Matrox adds the ability to PPro, and I think the Canopus edit system can do it. Probably others too but there are licensing costs. Vegas definitely can't aquire DVCpro50 or HD over firewire, but maybe their DVCPro25 is the same as DV25.
