Vegas Won't render MP4.

Hi so I just got a new computer and installed Vegas 10 trial on it. First I gotta say that this program is buggy as hell. The Vegas 9 I have on my laptop works smoother.

But that's not my problem. The thing is, I'm trying to render to MP4, but it won't let me. Everytime I take the steps to render MP4, when I click render it just gives me an error message and stops. It works fine on my laptop, but I can't get it to work on my new computer. Thoughts?

First, fix your new computer. I and many others have never crashed Vegas 10, so if there are any "bugs", they are all yours. Are you still running Vista - the second worst O/S made by Microsoft?

You haven't provided any system specs in your profile, so we can't even comment on your PC. Also, I hesitate to ask because it's irrelevant to your buggy PC, but what is the specific error message that you get when you try to "render as" an MP4 file?

Well I got a new computer so the chances of me running Vista are slim Lol.

Here are the specs: Windows 7 Home Premium, 12 gb of DDR3 RAM, Quad-Core i7 processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 graphics card, with a 2TB Raid 0 hard drive.

I doubt my brand new PC (straight from HP) is the problem, but if it is then I'm fine with doing what needs to be done. The program crashes when I press the spacebar to play or pause videos. Not everytime I press the spacebar, but that's the biggest reason for the crashes. I have to remind myself not to press the spacebar Lol

Anyways, back to the mp4 problem. the message it gives me is: An error occurred while creating the media file "file name.mp4" The reason for the error could not be determined.

That's all it says.

Do you have Quicktime installed? It is necessary for MOV and related video files.

Which encoder are you using? Sony AVC/MVC? MainConcept AVC/AAC? And what are your render settings?

Yes I have Quicktime installed. It is Sony AVC/MVC. I can't tell you my render settings right now, but I can say it's pretty much any render setting cause I've tried different settings and it still doesn't work.

I'll try to give you some specifics.

How 'bout giving the MainConcept encoder a try? I know it's a workaround, but it might get you a good render. Furthermore, I've found better quality (particularly at low bitrates) with MainConcept. Ref: Encoder Comparison

Also, I've seen more rendering issues with the Sony encoder. It's a real longshot that this is your problem, but here's a known bug with the Sony encoder: Vegas 10 Sony AVC Encoder Bug

Looking forward to your render settings as they might provide a clue. (a screenprint would be ideal).

I would be very cautious about my PC if it came from HP, Dell or any other company, They almost always come with tons of bloatware pre-installed, I always reformat these systems and do a clean reinstall of the OS, then I grab all the latest drivers and codecs I need.....''' That was the first thing I did with my Dell studio laptop and she runs like a champ...

Spacebar crashes the program.
Won't render to native MP4.
Something is wrong.

Suggest you uninstall / reinstall Vegas, if that doesn't work, have the computer checked while it's under warranty. HP shipped thousands of laptops with bad hard drives five years ago, so hardware issues are not unheard of.
