Can I make it clear, if it wasn't for CV and the wide view and readership, I wouldn't have had some of the diverse solutions that where then made avaiable to me.
It was their review on the Canon XM2 that finally "swung" me into miniDV. At the time I was using VideoFactory and converting from an old Panni Analogue. When I finally got going with DV and had some "issues" with the capture process, I took the whole rig to Bob at the Video Forum in Wembley, where he and some of his mates spent a lot of time with me "understanding" what was going on. I will always be grateful.
If I'm one of the OAPs by being a reader of CV that are part of the readership - then I'm guilty as charged . . . except I'm under 60 and now film community events and create products for London based organisations - THANK YOU BOB CRABTREE ! And thank you Computer Video.
The DVdoctor forums will only get stronger - because they'll be part of a rather wonderful website devoted to video editing and DVD authoring, and catering for the greenest of green beginners up to broadcast pros.
Sounds like an ambitious target, I know, but that's the target that's been set.
The plan is to go live on or before the start of Video Forum 2005 (Jan 23).
We may not have finished every area fully, but there will, I hope, be enough there for people to want to come back again and again.
Very kind of you to point this out. I often joke that in recent years, the main reason for CV exhibiting at Video Forum was to ensure that I got my annual ego massage.
But, truth is, people are essentially rather nice, and do NOT forget the help you give them, so they are very keen to pass on their thanks personally given the chance.
CV won't be showing at the 2005 show (Jan23-25, Earls Court), but DVdoctor will.
We'll be hosting a seminar every day and will have on the stand MANY of the key contributors to the DVdoctor forums - people such as Alan Roberts, Gary MacKenzie and Ray Liffen - and contributors to CV (such as Peter Wells and James Morris). The list has not been finalised but I'm also hoping that Tom Hardwick will be among the numbers, likewise Alcatel's streaming video expert Hendrik Dacquin.
The DVdoctor boards will start to carry regular updates from early January, so do keep an eye out there.
Hope to see you and LOTS of other CV readers and DVdoctor regulars at the show.
